Eccl. 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this [is] the whole [duty] of man.

12:14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether [it be] good, or whether [it be] evil.

Yes it is the duty of man but you have to be aware, too, that it was the commandment keeping that became the fall of the Israelites. That's why when The Lord Jesus became the propitiatory sacrifice in the Redemption Plan of God, He established the New Covenant for all who will covenant with God to receive the promised Holy Spirit. It is the Spirit of God who will make the commandment keeping to be of grace and unconstrained, not forced good works. The writer of Ecclesiastes was living before the Lord came and establish the New Covenant hence, was not aware of the Holy Spirit, therefore they have to force themselves, whether they like it or not, whether they can keep it or not. Anyway, they have the sacrifices and offerings whenever they break the commandment that made it convenient for them to habitually break the Law. It is the same Christian myth that we can always turn to Jesus everytime we commit sin or break His commandment ignorantly thinking that the forgiveness of God is unendinding forgetting the warning in Heb 10: 26-29 thinking that believing or accepting The Lord as Savior is a licence to sin ignorantly quoting 1 Jn 1:8-10 as alibi and a good excuse.

Actually, it was that they ....DID NOT...keep the commandments, that led to their fall.

From Genesis to Revelation God has been trying to bring men/women back...into keep God's commandments, as they are the foundation of what the Gospel message is all about.

14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here [are] they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

Here is the New Covenant.......

Hebrews 8:8 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:
8:9 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.
8:10 For this [is] the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

Yes, ALL God's commandments are based on the principle of Love.

Jesus proved that when HE, Himself ...kept them.
John 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

abraham ( Plus many others of the OT) knew the New Covenant promises......
Hebrews 8:10 For this [is] the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; [u][b]I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

Because God saids this of Abraham........
Genesis 26:5 Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.

AND this was before Israel, was any sort of Nation.
