Why Were You Born? God’s Plan

God created man as part of a process of recreating himself. We will ultimately be Gods, members of the God family. This family includes the Father, who is the supreme head of the family; his Son Jesus Christ who sits at his right hand, the heir of all things. Next, will be uncountable sons and daughters who will be a part of the God family.

The Father wants to create individual personalities who are freely dedicated to Him. That is why he created us as free thinking human beings with the options of choice and behavior to follow our own individual desires.

The beauty of this is that we are confined to a physical universe in physical bodies, outside of which we cannot escape or exist. We have the capacity to follow Gods ways, or our own. History has shown that when we rely on our own selfish decisions apart from God, we inevitably, without fail, create a disaster. Mankind is incapable of self-government apart from God. That is why we are confined to physical bodies that are not immortal. This life is a learning lesson that we will never forget.

God did not want to create automatons that behave automatically. He wanted to create sons and daughters that behave by choice, being instilled with God’s Spirit. If Christ does not return, mankind will most assuredly self-destruct, along with all other forms of life. When Christ does return, we will see the folly of our behavior, and our march towards self-destruction will end.

Here are a few verses that reveal that we will be part of the God family (elohim).
1 John 3: 1-2; Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed on us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. 2; Beloved now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

2 Peter 1:4; Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Galatians 4:5-7; To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons, 6; And because ye are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying Abba, Father.

Romans 8: 14-17; For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. 15; For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.16; The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17; And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
We are destined to be part of God’s family.

Is being changed from mortal to immortal the same as being changed from human beings into Gods? Is YHWH creating a pantheon of Gods?

The proposition seems to be that the immutable God of scripture is moving away from monotheism to polytheism. I find that idea difficult to accept.

"Then the LORD God said, 'See, the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever' -" (NRSV)

I'm not sure I understand your point. Are you saying that to become like something or someone is equivalent to becoming that something or someone?

The Hebrew word translated "like one of us" conveys a sense of unity, not just simile.

I'll take your word for it. There is no question that we are to be unified. Jesus' prayer to his God and Father (John 17) included the petition that his followers be one "just as we are". But does that mean that Jesus is praying that God would make all of Jesus' followers Gods? That seems unlikely to me.

There is only one who is truly God - the Father. The proposition set before us is that someday there will be many, perhaps billions of, Gods. Is that not polytheism?
