I've been considering the words of St. Paul..
Bodily exercise profiteth little...
1Ti 4:8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
When I consider the whole BMS, to me they all work together as one. If we don't take care of our bodies we can become a real liabilty on our spirits. Our thoughts and worries become more self-centered around what causes us distresses. Being unhealthy in the body and lack of exercise leads to weaknesses and sickness.
And at the same time, if our spirits are low, if we are depressed or overcome by worries it has an effect on our bodies..
Both Body and Spirit can become assets or liabilities depending upon how much time and effort we apply to them.
If I put all of my energy into my Body and leave my spiritual side empty and unused, I begin to feel an emptiness in my heart that bodily exercise just doesn't seem to touch.
If I put all of my energy into my Spirit and leave my Body empty and unused, I get run down, and grouchy and impatient. Which "taxes" my spirit.
When we are both physically and spiritually healthy we become assets to others. We are strong and able to lift others up when they are feeling down, or unable to lift themselves up.
When we are the assets then we are the hope givers.
When we are both physically and spiritually unhealthy we become liabilties to others. We sometimes without realizing it place our burdens upon them. We seek them for answers and for help.
When we are the liabilities then we are the hope seekers.
There are times in everyone's life when they are at different times both asset and liability..
And I see this as an OK thing. We all need to depend on others at sometime in our lives.
But I don't think it's ok to become a permanent liability.
You can be physically poor and still be rich in spirit.
You can be spiritually poor and rich physically.
I believe it is "more" important" to be spiritually healthy because you can overcome your physical impairments better with a healthy spirit.
And even with physical impairments you can still keep your spirit healthy. By eating right and keeping the body as physically fit as possible.
So maybe what Paul is saying..isn't..don't take care of your physical body because there is no profit in it, but rather focus on your spiritual health and your physical body will benefit from it as well.
Bodily exercise "alone" profiteth little...but when the foundation of that bodily exercise is built upon Godly spiritual exercise, they both profit the whole Body, Mind, and Spirit...
and that's what I think James is saying:
Jam 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
For bodily exercise profiteth little...For as the body without the spirit is dead. but godliness is profitable to all things..so faith without works is dead also.
just thinking and ramblin..
hugs

Remember, we are told:
Love your God with all your mind, body, and soul....
Knowledge is power, fitness is basic maintenance of the temple, and prayer and worship is proper (Godly) decoration for that temple... |

Hi LT!
1Ti 4:8
means
For bodily exercise [or anything!] profiteth little
when done by itself without any Love for NO exercise or for the lazy and for etc,
when done in hate of exercise
or
when done in hate of NO exercise: it leads to over-exercise, which led the aerobic guy to drop dead running!
1 Cor 13:1-3.
But unconditional Love for all words is profitable unto all things!1cor 13:1-3
So that Love for excercise and for no exercise
means
that we are already fully exercising our minds,
and so
with our minds exercised with Love,
we can make exercise doubly profitable at the right time,
or
we can make even NO exercise profitable at the right time!
2 Cor 12:9-10.
Unconditional Love for each condition and its opposite having the promise
of DOUBLING the life that now is: we are doubly alive
and
of TRIPING that which is to come.
John 11:25-26.
Hope that helps.
with Love that makes nothing into everything and everything into double everything,

Those are some very true words! Mind if I use them sometime? |
