Here is an interesting topic that unfortunately has no corresponding directive from scripture but one most religions have their own rules for.

What constitutes "good" and "bad" music. Or is the actual music itself amoral and the only morality involved donated by the lyrical content? I consider this an entirely opinion driven topic and am just interested to hear multiple points of view.

My personal opinion is that this is a grey area we won't know until we are in the millennial reign and beyond, or it falls under what may be good for you may be bad for me etc.

Examples:
A hip-hop beat may get person_a stirred up sexually, while merely putting person_b in a better mood.
or to cross to the other end of the spectrum:
Metal riffs/beat may send person_a into a killing frenzy but put person_b in a better mood.

There are many more examples for the polarizing merits or lack thereof for each genre. So let the posts flow......

Hi Dakryn,

Thanx for a great topic!

There is a scriptural directive for all words, of which word music is just one: Love: Mt 22:36-40. 5:43-48.

All sounds are to be loved :
so that all sounds wd then make
the Music of the Sound of Love,
or the Sound of the Music of Love,
or the Love of the Sound of Music!

So what constitutes bad or immoral or music before and from the very first sound or note or bar is the Sound of Hatred for any sound or music or word.

There shd only be music we prefer to not listen to but not because we hate it.

We may even define or perceive any music as good or as bad, but it is still to be loved as bad or lousy since we are supposed to love even lice and Alice!smile
Even grey areas are goverened by pure Love for black and white and gray.

No words nor beat or riff nor noise nor any other sound can make any lyric or music bad of itself.
Only Hatred for any word is the bad that makes good bad, bad bad or worse and worse worse-r!smile

No music is good of itself.
Only Love for all words is the good that makes bad good, good good or better and better best!

Psalm 66:1
Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands:

Love makes noise into melody!

This is why WS wrote:

If music be the food of Love, play on.

The truth is music is only A or oNE food of Love.

When all words are loved,
every word is a food of Love.

In the Muse of Love that makes music out of everything, even out of the thing called nothing, smile

Dakryn, I would tend to agree w/you on the topic. I think music affects people differently. Lyrics are important to me & the beat of a music as well. I enjoy all types of music though. So "good" or "bad" music -- no. It's what people do w/the music they hear that's important.
