I'm just going to open this thread with verse 1-3 of chapter 1 of the book of revelation..
this could be quite interesting..
My references come from:
http://cf.blueletterbible.org
I use the KJV version.
other versions are available here also.
Rev 1:1 ¶ The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified [it] by his angel unto his servant John:
Rev 1:2 Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.
Rev 1:3 Blessed [is] he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time [is] at hand.
Revelation:
apokalypsis
ä-po-kä'-lü-psēs (Key)
1) laying bare, making naked
2) a disclosure of truth, instruction
a) concerning things before unknown
b) used of events by which things or states or persons hitherto withdrawn from view are made visible to all
3) manifestation, appearance
be back in a bit.. |

Luk 7:22 Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.

hmm..
These things have come to pass..the seeds have been sown.
Rom 16:20 And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ [be] with you. Amen.
The book of revelation of Jesus Christ..in my opinion, is the unveiling of Christ himself to the world.
It contains every word, every step, every seed that he planted while he walked upon the earth among man.
In order to understand revelation we must understand prophecy, because Jesus is the spirit of prophecy himself.
Those things which must shortly come to pass are those things which have been prophesied and are in the world and still taking place all at the same time.
So you have to look at it from three sides.
the time that was, the time that is, and the time that will be.
I said..oh you like to start with the easy stuff LOL..
hard enough to see in one dimension..but 3..
we can proceed if you like but it will be difficult. Because I am learning at the same time. And I can only share with you how I see it and understand it with mine own ears and eyes.
And everyone will see and hear differently. That's why it's good to have many different perspectives..it makes a picture come into view more fully.
Revelation is a most difficult book to study, even with those who have studied it their whole lives.
Maybe something a little less difficult?
I know you have said you don't know the bible. So how about we start with what you do know in it.
what about the fruits of the spirit..love joy peace goodness kindness longsuffering..
each one of these fruits is a study in itself and it tastes good..
Where revelation is basically about judgment and justice and revenge and is a little harder to bear when not prepared first with fruit to sustain them..
There is also the study of the armour we are to wear:
Eph 6:10 ¶ Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
Eph 6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places].
Eph 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Eph 6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
Eph 6:15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
Eph 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
Eph 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
Eph 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
Eph 6:19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,
Eph 6:20 For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
Which each piece of armour again is a study in itself.
aught we to tread the path of revelation without first being prepared?
Maybe that's why it's at the end of the book..
However, if you wish to proceed we shall, but I believe the deeper we get the more difficult it may become, and we find ourselves without sustenance and protection.
the choice is yours..
hugs

Hmmm. I think there's a whole lot of stuff to learn first before tackling Revelation.
One of Paul's epistles might be better. Since you admit to being a babe in Christ, Veronica, Corinthians might be a better choice as a place to start. In fact, you should start with the foundational principles.

Depending on which study, Yes. Not Rev. Too complicated for beginners.

I like the lighter bread myself..
I started another study about the beautitudes..
what Jesus taught the multitude.
So much to learn in everything..nothing is without significance..
and who are the poor in spirit..and what does it mean to be poor in spirit?
This is the question I asked in that study..
who are we?
Hugs MoJo,
you are so wise..
we are all beginners..with every step we take.. |

| Veronica, mojo is right. Revelation is not where you want to start. One of Paul's epistles would be much better. |
