Selfish low level devotion

It is very clear that the human being can worship God only to cross difficulties and attain selfish pleasure (Maanushananda) and if possible to attain the bliss of God (Brahmananda). The difficulties may belong to this world or the upper hell but the philosophy is one and the same. In such case, how to keep the human being constantly in the devotion of God, which is certainly means only and not the end? Even in such low type of devotion, people forget God as soon as the problems get solved.

For a few days they may remember God with gratefulness but very shortly they forget God. People will remember the problems of the past forever provided there is a possibility of claiming the credit for their effort. This means people will remember the difficulties in the past and explain the scenes with lot of interest to others continuously till their date of death provided there is a possibility of mentioning their own capabilities as the means for crossing such difficulties. Therefore, the past difficulties are of no use to keep the human being in the devotion constantly because God has to be praised and not the self.

Wow! I don't think you know many Christians if this is what you believe as we give God much credit for blessings in our lives.

I have a pretty good life. I am not saying that I have not had past trials and I am not saying I won't experience problems or trials in the future. I am aware that God did help me out during some rough times in my life. After many years, I am still thankful for the things that God did for me and for my family. I don't take credit for the things I am talking about. I know that God intervened. Even though things have 'evened out' for me over the past decade, I still love God and worship Him and am devoted to Him.

How dare you make such a blanket statement with nothing to back it up. There are perhaps some that are as you describe but not all. Maybe this is the way you have typically seen people act but your experience does not mean that is typical for most people who believe in God. I think you should back up what you stated with something more than your opinion or make sure that it's made clear that this is just your opinion.

If you cannot do that, I will just conclude that this post was intended to stir people on this board up.

Thanx, datta.

But don't you mean selfhatish low level devotion since no one can do anything without themselves?

Selfhatish devotion wd explain why people also have a low level of Love for God:
we can only love others with the Love we have for self.
Before we can love others, we have to lvoe self.
So if we have low level Love for self,
then we can only have lowlevel Love for all others.

with Love for the self and selfishness, with Hate only for hating myself or selfhatishness,
