Hi all, looking forward tofinding out what other people think about the ever increasing questions I have. So many controversial issues amongst those that love Jesus that it is difficult to sort through the junk and work out wht the Bible really says.
Jesus is Lord. |

Welcome to the board!
Yes, it's true that there are a lot of conflicting viewpoints amongst Christians, but it's really interesting trying to get to the bottom of things! One thing almost all Christians can agree on is that if everyone really understood what the Bible says, a lot of problems would be solved. |

This don't make no sense. "One thing almost all Christians can agree on is that if everyone really understood what the Bible says, a lot of problems would be solved."
Does it mean that most don't understand the bible? And if they don't why is the thing so bloody hard to understand?
For the love of a leaning post.

What don't make no sense, dear Siam, is your post here, but it's clear you don't understand mine, so I'll explain:
If everybody really understood what the Bible says, then it would make sense that everybody would agree about what it says, and there would thus be a lot less conflict about it, thus solving a lot of problems. Think about it: what is the difference between all the different denominations of Christianity? What seeps in between the different denominations? What kind of attitudes grow? Would these divisions exist if everybody had the same understanding of what the Bible says? How can we ensure that everybody has the same understanding of what the Bible says? What would happen if everybody understood what the Bible really says? What other problems might be solved if everybody gained exactly the same, correct, understanding of the Bible? |

Thanks; now I see?
It really is a complicated issue and you have bought up a lot of questions that I have thought about for many years.
I believe the main problem with Christianity and the Bible is that so many seem to need it to be a historical document more than a spiritual one.
It’s as if the fact that it might not be historical makes it lose its worth and value as map of our inner selves.
Personally I would like to see more non-Christians reading and using the bible for the sheer fact that it is a brilliant metaphysical tool.
The bible really makes lots more sense when you can see parallels between it and other religious writings as well.
Anyhoo' more of a topic for the discussion page then for Mick’s’ first post page.
Thanks for chatting,
Lotsa love; Siam.

Hi Siam,
Those are some good points - certainly food for thought, anyways. I think you're right that this isn't really the thread for our little conversation, though
Cheers,

I think if you wanted some opinions on some controversial questions... you just might have found the right place.
Welcome to Disneyland.

Thanks for your replies and yes, I've certainly come to the right place to delve into the plethora of contvoersial topics found in the bible and amongst believers.
Reading around the many bible discussions is my task for the moment then learning the correct etiquette for posting and arguing then into the fray to challenge both my own and others' thinking.
Don't you just love the Bible and all it contains. _________________ Mick |
