I just heard this on the radio (it was a political ad Rolling Eyes )

4700 americans are killed each year by drunk drives who are illegal aliens.

4300 americans are violently murdered by illegal aliens.

There are currently 42000 violent sexual offenders, who are illegal aliens, residing the the U.S.

What are the chances that these statistics are correct?

i'd say maybe preety good...but that is just based on the fact once last summer i took a deputy sheriff fishing and the town he is from had a big influx of illegals and he told me out of his mouth that in his county now...over 50 percent of the dui's are illegal's...and none have real, valid licenses...just his words to me..

The stats might be right, but if you compare the percentages of DUI's, sex-offenders, etc. among illegals to the same socioeconomic segment of American society that is not illegal, is there any difference?

I bet they're pretty close.

you are probably close on that...but some cultures have a different vew on things like drinking and driving(what level of intoxication is drunk), and what constitutes sexual harassment ect......so people from those places that come here may have a higher percentage in regards to certain offenses that really were not offenses or atlast serious ones where they came from...

The thing that was gnawing at me was that 9000 people died needlessly because someone was in this country illegally. It astounds me that the debate over border control or its antithesis; amnesty, is blind to the reality of the situation.

This country needs the aliens. We need the labor because no fat-assed american is going to go out and mow lawns or pick strawberries, as a country we appear to be above that Rolling Eyes , but we need to protect ourselves as well.

The two sides of the issue from the far left and right amounts to complete idiocy. Close the borders and the economy takes a dump, grant amnesty and the same thing happens, plus you get an influx of people who rely on government to support them.

Anyone who has read my posts on this board know that I am always going on about balance. In my thoughts and deeds I am moderate, it is my nature. I reason with compassion, and my emotions are edged with logic. I eat anything I want, but nothing to excess. It comes naturally to me to understand that there is rarely ONE solution to a problem, but rather a combination of many different things. Illegal imigration is one of those issue where moderation and balance are needed.

We close our borders, but while doing that we expidited the imigration process and increase the volume of work visas we grant. Make it easier to get into our country legally while at the same time making it tougher and intolerable to get in illegally. Is that crazy talk?

I just called my sister in law, to ask her opinion about this (she is mexican). She tells me that at no time during these 'raids' did she feel that her constitutional rights had been violated.

Flattery! I like it (heh, who doesn't?)!

I was on vacation (my turn for once!). Anyways, about illegal immigrants...

I think P is probably right - the percentages of illegal immigrants commiting these crimes are probably reasonably close to those of the rest of the population.

I also agree with RevJP - illegal immigrants do a lot of work that most Americans don't want to do - and in general they are happy about it, because their lives are so much better than they were before they moved to America. What i don't understand is why they are illegal immigrants - aren't there legal ways to move to the States? Since America has benefitted from these illegal immigrants, shouldn't there be ways for the same people to do the same jobs and also be living there legally?

***tangent warning!!!***
I was thinking about something along these lines the other day- did you know that if you live in N. Korea, and you escape (there's no other word for it) to Beijing, Beijing will deport you back to N. Korea, where your life will be made into a living hell, so that you wish you'd never tried to leave in the first place? I was trying to think of ways to save these people from being deported back into N. Korea. Can refugees be useful in this country (and here I was thinking Canada)? Would it be a benefit or a detriment to this country to take in refugees from another country? I think it would be a good thing to take these people in, but it would be hard, because:

1. These people escape to China, not Canada (China being by far the closer neighbour!)
2. They for the most part do not speak English
3. They come from all walks of life, from rich to poor, and the poor people will not likely have many useful skills (or their skills may be outdated or differently applied, as in farming), so training would become necessary, on top of the language barrier.

I maintain that even so, it would be for the better to let these people live here and contribute in whatever ways they can to our country...

Oh, and lovely - I just got back from Hawaii, and I see it just started to snow outside Sad

hey the last part of your post along with the above quote and one of my other post in this thread about cultural differences...reminded me of something that happened where i lived once...

there were some vietmanese guys that found a poodle running through the local park with one on around...so they thoght it was a stray...took it home...killed it...prepared it for supper...taking pictures while they did so to show how to prepare one properly....anyway...the dogs owner reported her dog mising...put a reward out on it if someone found it...a week went by...the guys went to have their film developed and when the developers(who did not know at the time the dog was stolen) saw in the pictures, the men killing and preparing the pouch for supper...they called the police because they deemed it cruel...the police arrested the men for inhuman treatment of an animal as well as theft after it was realized it belonged to the woman...the guys were shocked and disgusted they had been arrested...saying where they were from...a stray dog...well...food for the family...and they claimed the woman should have kept an eye on her dog and not let it roam unsupervised(that part i agree with) if she wanted to eat it herself... Laughing ...cultural...

This isn't quite true. You can't compare illegals to the entire population. I bet that if you do, illegals commit more crimes. But this is apples and oranges. To be fair, you have to compare the stats from the illegals to the stats from the segment of the general population that falls in the same socioeconomic group as the illegals (ie. the poorest Americans). I bet that if you compare those two groups, then they'll be close.

This is just plain silly. You can't move to a country and live by the laws of your old country. Rule of law is one of the main principles that all Western countries are founded on, and this is especially true of America. It's common knowledge on the street that the President has to follow the same laws that even the lowliest bum has to follow.

And really this is the only way it can be. Imagine people started moving to America and doing the barbaric things that are allowed in all of the uncivilized 'countries' out there. A good example is female genital mutilation; it's totally normal in North Africa, but if someone does it in America, they should be locked away for life or maybe worse.

So yes, the woman should have kept a better eye on her dog, but sometimes dogs get away. It happens even to the best dog owners. And it in no way excuses theft and cruelty to animals. They should definitely have been charged.

I just heard the commercial again and have a few additions/corrections:

I said:
Quote:

4700 americans are killed each year by drunk drives who are illegal aliens.

4300 americans are violently murdered by illegal aliens.

There are currently 42000 violent sexual offenders, who are illegal aliens, residing the the U.S.
It should read:

4700 americans are killed each year by drunk drivers who are illegal aliens.

4300 americans are killed in violent crimes committed by illegal aliens.

There are currently 240,000 known violent sexual offenders, who are illegal aliens, residing the the U.S.

More americans were killed last year by illegal aliens than have died in the Iraq war.

It goes on to talk about the welfare roll dollars spent on illegals as well...

now to this:

Ana wrote:

This is a two-fold issue: Purity of race and National security. The asian countries have a very strong urge to preserve the purity of their race. In Korea for example Amerasian children from the korean war and from those soldiers stationed there, are routinely ostracized and often killed or left to starve if thier american, or other nationality, parent does not take them out of country. China has a similar record, as do many of the asian countries.

National security: China is being extremely smart in protecting their interests, the chance, or rather - probability that a North Korean 'escapee' is actually a spy, is very high.
