of course what does he expect...all who oppose the furor will pay...
i mean if the white house made up lie after lie to attack iraq and doesn't care about the young men dying there now...thinks it should have the power to control the press...want the right to torture and imprison folks without trial, proof or charges...then surely they surely won't take no lip for a navy lawyer... |

ISI... I have found that those who been 'passed over' and are forced to retire because of it, really have no one else to blame other than themselves. An Officer retiring as an O-4 is the equivelent of an enlsted soldier retiring as an E5(P)... or E6. Regardless of what excuses are offered up... there usuaully are other mitigating circumstances involved instead of one issue.
Perhaps this LtCmdr would like to volunteer his performance evals? _________________ Exodus 20:11 "For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them..."

Well i can agree with what you said, but i will have to add a "but" in there as well. In my 22 years i saw bad people get promoted, good people held back and good people get ahead when bad people were held back. In the 80's and 90's QMP was still a big deciding factor and there were many people forced out, usually because of apathy or some "bad chickens" in their records.
Just recently-over here aguy i was in Iraq with htrew away his whole career over the usual ....immorality.....with one of his soldiers. Once a senior NCO, now hes on his way home...and i say "Good". Probably shoulda happened sooner, but the old crimes were prolly covered up by a 'good old boy network'.
Performance NCOERS and OERs dont say it all and often times are inflated, as well as good people that recieve unjust reports. Its not a perfect system.
I think i learned the most as a drill instructor on right and wrong and how fast it can kill a career. I left that position after 3 years and had many good achievements, but those not able to understand that politics do exist were quickly left in the dust.
I retired without a single black mark on my records, but i learned as ayoung NCO how to speak up-do it right with key people knowing whats going on. Trying to tackle a problem in the system by yourself can get you wrapped up in constatina wire...ouch!
To make a long story short...no we dont have all of the facts here in this article, just afew opinions from some peers. But retirement itself is not a way to get rich-its the benefits that save you piles of dough...like medical...the check is gravy and usually a fresh mortgage payment....after tithes of course... _________________ Proverbs 27:17

Behind the scenes 'politics' play a huge role in senior officer promotions, particularly in the Navy. This particular pass over could have been nothing more than the guy pissed off one of the board officers at one point in his career.
While I doubt very, very, seriously that 'the white house' had anything to do with this demise, I'm sure the naval brass viewed his defense choice and his outspoken handling of it, with some level of dissatisfaction. _________________ JP's Mind - my blog
