The first piece of armour I find that we are to put on is, our loins girt about with truth.
So I went looking for loins, girt, and truth.
Eph 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Eph 6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
Eph 6:15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
Eph 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
Eph 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
Eph 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
Having your loins girt about with truth...
1Pe 1:13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
Isa 26:3 Thou wilt keep [him] in perfect peace, [whose] mind [is] stayed [on thee]: because he trusteth in thee.
girt about:
1) to fasten garments with a girdle or belt
2) to gird one's self
3) metaph. with truth as a girdle
a) to equip one's self with knowledge of the truth
what is the knowledge of the truth that we need to have our minds girt about with?
2Jo 1:1 The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth;
2Jo 1:2 For the truth's sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever.
2Jo 1:3 Grace be with you, mercy, [and] peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.
2Jo 1:4 I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.
2Jo 1:5 And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.
2Jo 1:6 And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.
What is truth?
I found that the spirit is truth, Jesus is truth, the law is truth,God's word is truth, the truth that there is only one God. And that we should seek the knowledge of truth as silver.
Pro 2:3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, [and] liftest up thy voice for understanding;
Pro 2:4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as [for] hid treasures;
Pro 2:5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.
Pro 2:6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth [cometh] knowledge and understanding.
Pro 2:7 He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: [he is] a buckler to them that walk uprightly.
Pro 2:8 He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.
Pro 2:9 Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; [yea], every good path. _________________ Joh 15:14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

Pilgrim's Progress speaks of the armor of God and its uses. I will post it if there is interest. Quite illuminating. _________________ JP's Mind - my blog

The next day they took him and had him into the armoury, where they showed him all manner of furniture, which their Lord had provided for pilgrims, as sword, shield, helmet, breastplate, all-prayer, and shoes that would not wear out. [‹1.78›] And there was here enough of this to harness out as many men, for the service of their Lord, as there be stars in the Heaven for multitude. [‹1.79›]
[79] Christ himself is the Christian's armoury. When he puts on Christ, he is then completely armed from head to foot. Are his loins girt about with truth? Christ is the truth. Has he on the breastplate of righteousness? Christ is our righteousness. Are his feet shod with the Gospel of peace? Christ is our peace. Does he take the shield of faith, and helmet of salvation? Christ is that shield, and all our salvation. Does he take the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God? Christ is the Word of God. Thus he puts on the Lord Jesus Christ; by his Spirit fights the fight of faith; and, in spite of men, of devils, and of his own evil heart, lays hold of eternal life. Thus Christ is all in all-(J. B.).
The interesting thing about the armour of God is that it sheilds us only from that which we are facing. The breastplate does not cover the back, we cannot hold the shield nor swing His sword behind us, it is only in facing our trials, in perseverence of attack are we protected by His armour, once we turn and attempt to flee, we open ourselves to injury. Perseverence and faith in the armour He has provided us is our protection.
I thought this spoke well of the armour of God and ties in equally well with our current topic of perseverence in our study of James. _________________ JP's Mind - my blog

I have read pilgrims progress by Paul Bunyan? I believe..
Awesome book. And I see that path that christian took, in my own life daily.
Thank You revJP..
I was looking in the OT as to how the armour was made, worn, and used in battle, and it is so cool!!
The breastplate is an awesome piece of equipment and beautifully made.
As we are to become in the image of Christ, I found it interesting the clothing we wear. White robes, and gold breastplates, there's so much to go through.
Seeking treasure always
Peace

I would like to thank both of you. I grew up in the church and have been looking for something beyond "milk". I want to understand beyond what I already know. You've given me something to think about. Again thank you. _________________ Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, throughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, "Man, what a ride!" |

I read Pilgrim's Progress a long time ago. I know I liked it but I don't remember it all. I was a Christian but kind of a baby one. I too want to get into deeper studies.
Since I'm new just a few hours ago, I'm not sure what all there is to do.
I think I'll like it here. TJ _________________ For the Word of God is quick and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword...." |
