Hey I'm a newborn christian and I really need help. See my parents are Catholic and don't like the fact that I've gone christian. They are saying that I'm crazy and stuff like that. And I was wondering if anyone could help me by giving me advice on how to get over this huge roadblock in my life.
Thanks,
And may the lord be with us all. _________________ Dr. Jack Van Impe's home site www.jvim.com |

NC... Why not tell them that you seek to follow Christ and be led of His Spirit? That there are no real names in scripture itself that one must go by but His.
Many times others are bound by their tradition and tradition wins out over the word of God.
Ask them... Mom dad? Do you believe in Jesus Christ? If they say "yes" say, then I'd like to follow Him and thats what "I mean" by being christian and show them where the early church was called as such.
Ask them why they feel as they do, it might stir up an opportunity but more then likely strife (it always happens).
They can call you what you will but you can call yourself what you will. But rather then stir up dissention over this (because you know who you are in your heart) Look for an opportunity to be both obedient to your parents and yet true to the Lord. Might have to keep it in your heart, nevertheless you can still shine.
Don't make it a "you verses them" thing perhaps when they see in you the Love of God they will ask you of the Lord you serve.... See?
Just my thoughts on it
Hugs Eric

Mat 10:33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.
How am I suppose to do both???
Thanks,
May Jesus be with us all

Eric... HOW are you denying Him by telling your parents that you seek to follow the Lord?
Why cause an argument over "titles" or "denominitional" names. If they are Catholic despite that I might disagree with their doctrine, they do believe in Jesus Christ (maybe not with eyes open) but You should actually have the waters parted before you on this.
Must you say anything other then I desire to follow the Lord and learn of Him and grow in my understanding?
It doesn't have to be a big thing that we make ourselves a target purposefully. You are allowed to be wise as a serpent and innocent as a dove, when you have learned the skills in doing this.
How are you denying Him in this?

Listen to what Paul said:
1Cor:9:19: For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.
1Cor:9:20: And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;
1Cor:9:21: To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.
1Cor:9:22: To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.
1Cor:9:23: And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.
You know, you can replace the word Jew, with Catholic..
Gentiles with Jahova Witness
Those under the law with Islam
Those without the law with Baptist...
What I'm trying to say is denomination doesn't matter, we all have only One God.
So, ask them what their views are, share your beliefs together.
Study the Bible together, Hear what they say on the matter and then search for the answers together..
It has no significance from what background you are, what denomination you are, what religion you follow.
What is important is that we all learn to understand God's word and what He means, and what He has to offer and teach us.
So don't argue, don't push, don't get angry, and don't force.
You have to let a seed die ( a word of truth) before it can grow.
Most of all HAVE PATIENCE
You know, we are all lost before God finds us.
