Hello from Texas...
So I was thinking about my New Year goals. Being self employed and all, I usually focus on alot on business related stuff. What I will do, and how well.. You all probably know the drill. In March, I say... What was I thinking!! I haven't done any of this stuff yet.. and I really do not want to.... Was I possessed?
Four years ago though, I retired my professional thought process.. at least for that year. And my one life goal was simple.
I wanted to watch how God answered my prayers. Believe it or not. I actually did do that for that year. God gave me the memory to do that... I wonder why? The life altering events that happened were beyond my understanding. God was supreme and in control as much as a person suffering from control issues will allow. (I really am not quite that bad.. just don't ask my daughter or husband.
It was an amazing year for my faith grew, and I received many answers to struggles and God supply those answers in abundance.
Guess what, the next year and those coming after, I was back to my professional mindset. And you guessed it, I did less than half of my intended goals... again. So what was my lesson...
This year and especially of late, I have had many personal challenges. My brother has major health problems, and He has left the faith. How serious life really becomes for the unbelieving and spiritually rebellious and especially for those that watch helplessly and struggle for words to convey God's love and reasons.
The question really is...
Have you determined your 2003 Goals? Are the spirtual? I have recently been reminded of Christ saying, "Seek You First... What. .. the kingdom of God. For myself, I try to do that, but I fail miserably. I confess, I try to be God's person, but I am so self sufficent. And I remember that God chastens those that He loves, so He must be trying to molding me lately.
So, my goal in 2003 is to open my eyes wide to see how God answers my prayers and to how the Spirit leads in my life. I pray that I can be conformed in heart and that I will come to a place in my world where the most important thing to me really is eternal? All the other stuff, through HIM will happen as He wills, won't it? I must trust and look at Him. So for me this is it.
So, what do you all think? And what are your goals, really for this year? (Sorry for the super long question and post.. it is a Texas drawl thing I guess)
God's best to you all and happy holidays,
Victoria |

Hi Victoria,
Long time no see, well read ... you know what I mean. Hope things are ok there in Texas
Goals for 2003, great subject, good idea. I, like probably every other honest person, fail miserebly with the goals I set (maybe there usually to big!) But a while ago I wrote 4 things in the front of my Bible which I think about on the first day of the year (and most days really):
1) "He faileth not"
2) Only to be what He wants me to be every moment of every day.
3) To know Christ and to make him known.
4) "Lord grant unto me the serenity to accept those things I cannot change, and give me courage Lord to change the things I can, and grant me wisdom Lord to know the difference.
Every blessing for Christmas and may you know God's peace and Joy in 2003.

Victoria,
Excellent post! I think you bring up an excellent point that I haven't seen discussed. There IS a place for God in our workplace, a very central one. It doesn't have to be about trying to convert everyone we work with, or preaching to fellow employees or any of that (which I personally find obnoxious).
You can use the power of your faith to "walk the walk" in business just as you do in daily life, and often with amazing results.
I also set my business goals at the beginning of the year for the next, and you have brought a renewed focus on faith to my outlook.
Thank you!

Your right every year we set goals for ourselves, and we should! Most times they never get done.
"Employment," something I have not had for about 14 years, since I had to go on disability. (bad lungs)
I think that most of us set our goals so high that we can never meet them! But if the Lord is willing and my health don't fail I intend to continue playing & singing His music.
I want to set aside more time to study His Word & for prayer.
I want to spend more time with my frinds & neighbors.(We never seem to have time)
I want the opportunity to witness to
non-believers.
You look down my post you will see
a lot of "I's" I've got one more:
I just want to do His will for my life!
God Bless you all from the depth of my heart,
And I wish you a Merry Christmas & a Very Fruitful & Happy New Year!
With Love,
Nobby

Boy tonite, I am able to just post replies. Nobby have you noted that my posts are shorter? (well, didn't think so, but...)
I agree with what you said. But isn't it just so difficult to see what is important.. like eternally important. There are always so many good things to do and that need to be done. But, we do not have a central vision as to our real purpose, it seems for me that the real purpose takes a back seat. Like you said Nobby, I want to make a difference in not just my world in 2003. I want to make one for Him.
I have been working on a project for several years for getting members of my church involved in giving food and needed stuff and delivering it to those that call us or that just a little help. It can be demeaning to go to a church for help. So we go to them. Kinda of a outreach to feed like Jesus did (minus the miracle part, of course). Hey maybe we could get a program going with members of Bible Discussion to get a outreach program in each of our communities. A huge undertaking I know.
Nobby, you have a great heart. You are too cool. Be safe and take care of those lungs.

i think this is a great topic. many times we set too many goals too high for ourselves too. we can only do so much, but if our goals are going to be used to god's glory, then we can rest in his assurance of help.
victoria- i think it is a wonderful thing that you are doing at your church. the outreach program is amazing. i was able to take part of an outreach program in my comunity around christmas for children. it was an enormous blessing to me, i sincerly hope that you will be tremendously blessed for what you are doing. god bless you for what you are doing.
nobby- i am praying that everything with your health will go well in 2003. gob bless |

Well thank you He Is With Us. I appreciate your words of encouragement. But, it is about Him and surely not about me and what I can do. I guess it is more about what I 'will' do. Anyway, it is a 'baby' project for us. With God's direction, I hope that in 2003, it can become more than that.
Anyway.... welcome to our group. I see that you are new to our group of seekers. You will find some wonderful people here. So be sure to keep coming back. You will see that we seem to really have a sort of give and take relationship here... I have learned and hopeful I have been able to cause some to say... 'what did she say or mean'... and therefore, delve deeper into His Word, just like I have too in order to grow. It is a partnership of sorts, I guess.. you learn.. you teach... Anyway, Welcome again.... and keep on posting!

Well!---------"I duno little missie!! We cud take it over ta tha other place, un debate it sum! Har Har

Victoria, yes I agree with you it is very, very difficult to know what is most important in our walk with God!
We set goals like I said before that are probably to high!
I don't know about you but my wife was church secretary for 26years. She & I both have trouble saying "no" to our Bro.& Sis at the church! Sound familiar?
Since I've found that it doesn't hurt to say
no now and again, I'm a happier person! Sometimes things just won't get done unless we step out in faith. We've got to make a start somewhere. We can't leave everything up to our leaders of the church either, they can't do it all by them self!
We all have our part!
Maybe we can make a difference for Him in 2003!
Your project the outreach, getting food & clothes and such,to the needee sounds great!
Well don't work yourself into a frinzy &
enjoy a great new year!
Thank you for your kind words, they were excepted just like they were sent.
Victoria God Bless you,
& a Happy New Year
Nobby

Hummmm, the topic is the $1M question, huh?
I want so much in my life, to begin to see how many years of my life (34), that I have wasted setting MY personal goals, and not seeking HIS goals. Maybe my personal fullfillment and happiness isn't what life is all about, and I have been missing it all along...
I know from personal experience, that the happiest times of my life have been when I have been totally out of my comfort zone, attempting to do what HE would have me to do.
I've since lost that feeling, and would love to find it again this year. All for HIS glory, not mine.

Mat I'm 66 & I've wasted a lot more years than you.
We need to seek God's way for our life! And when we make a promise to Him, we need to keep it. Be carefull when you make a promise to God! If it be His will, He will expect it of you!

Why not? All these things are free, If you love Him & you're doing His will!
quote | Quote: | | I know from personal experience, that the happiest times of my life have been when I have been totally out of my comfort zone, attempting to do what HE would have me to do. |
That's the right track!

Mat that feeling can only be felt thru much prayer! Your prayers will not go unnoticed!
Just like your biological father, How do you show him you love him? You would talk to him,& tell him you love him & you would find ways to do things together just to be close to him!
It's the same with your spiritual Father talk to him. Tell him you love Him, He knows you do, but He likes to hear you say it!
Then pray in silence, listen for His answer.
We need to turn all of our problens over to God! His wisdom is much greater than ours!
Love ya Bro.
Nobby
PS: Even if you are only 34 yrs. old!
And not dry behind the ears yet! He!He!
I stole your line. (he!he!)
