Roger, it sounds like you are using the Bible to justify sexism.

p1234567890,

IT SOUNDS LIKE = = YOU DON'T BELIEVE = THE WORD OF GOD, = = THE HOLY SCRIPTURES!

1. (Numbers 23:19) God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

2. (Titus 1:2) In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

3. (John 17:17) Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

"I never give them Hell." I just tell 'the Truth' and they think it's Hell. -- Harry S. Truman, President, U.S.A., 1945-1953

Call me an idealist, but I don't think that the word of Jesus Christ should ever be used to oppress anyone. The Bible should not be used to oppress women and take away their right to be something other than a baby factory, it shouldn't be used to justify racism or lynch blacks, and it shouldn't be used to justify war and oppress people in another country.

I'm just a simple atheist who doesn't know very much about the Bible, but I have a pretty good idea of what Jesus' attitudes were, and I don't think he would have liked for people to use His name to oppress anyone, especially women. As I understand things, Jesus respected women.

(James 4:4) Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

TELL THE TRUTH! You believe in Only Yoursefl! you, as your own god!

You have put words into people's mouths and then have the gall to be angry at them for it? (Straw man argument)

No man is a god.

I believe in myself most of the time. I don't believe I am my own god.

slightly off topic, but this discussion is a great illustration for a couple of points I've been pondering/harping on since I came here...

1) If you look hard enough, you can find scripture to support any point of view...therefore, the Bible is not internally coherent.

2) Paul, who never met Jesus in life, has his own perceptions/beliefs and he impressed them upon other congretation and invoke the word of God/Jesus to justify them.

3) Paul and Jesus had distinctly differing points of view regarding women.

Just my opinion, I can elaborate if needed. Smilel

Oh...and I've been promoted to "Ferret" Smile who came up with these forum titles Smile they make me chuckle Smile

(Joh 10:34) Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?

ANYONE CAN MAKE THEMSELF god = AS YOU HAVE DONE!

YOUR ACCUSE GOD, AND HIS WORD = of being WRONG? NOT!

Then you try and lay THE HEAVY on me, and say, YOUR QUOTE: Roger, it sounds like you are using the Bible to justify sexism.

I Never Implied SEXISM, Nor did I Imply Political Correctness [which is InCorrect!]

YOU SAID, it sounds like you are using the Bible to justify sexism.

ARE THOSE NOT YOUR VERY WORDS? ? ?

SAY WHAT YOU MEAN = AND MEAN WHAT YOU SAY = = OR DON'T SAY AT ALL!

Thanks, RR

Roger, you're using scripture to justify your sexist attitudes. If women want to go out and work, who are you to tell them that they shouldn't?

You're not being very Jesus-like. He respected women. You seem to want to control them and tell them what to do.

YOUR QUOTE:

If women want to go out and work, who are you to tell them that they shouldn't?

RESPONSE:

I Never = Said or Implied ANYTHING OF THE SORT!

GOD DID SAY. . . .

(Titus 2:1-to-5) But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:

(Tit 2:2) That the mature men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.

(Tit 2:3) The mature women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;

(Tit 2:4) That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,

(Tit 2:5) To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

NOW, There are Execeptions, WHERE THE WOMAN is abandoned by her husband, or the husband dies, AND SHE HAS TO WORK! That may not her choice, in Most Instances!

PERHAPS IF YOU Stop Worldly THINKING = And See what GOD HAS SAID? ? ? ?

(1John 2:15-16-17) Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
(1Jo 2:16) For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
(1Jo 2:17) And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

Roger, there are all sorts of passages in the Bible that support women's rights, so why are you focusing on the parts which want to take away women's rights and control them?

The Bible can be used to justify any attitude. You can find scripture supporting racism as well.

You can tell what a person's attitudes are by looking at which lines from scripture they quote, and it's clear that you have sexist attitudes.

1 Peter 3:7,
"Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered."

My paraphrase:
"Husbands, live with you wives and get to know them and what makes them 'tick', give them honor and respect, the two of you are equal in the eyes of God, and if you don't listen to them them God will turn a deaf ear to your prayers."

NOwhere will you find in the scriptures the same command or similar warning given to the wives.

True. Scripture gives entirely different commands, or warnings, to wives.

Hi all, I'm new, but am facing the 'role of woman' prob in my relationship. I enjoy things traditionally seen as only for men and will be a lawyer in 3 years because that is one of my talents.
I can't and don't enjoy cooking or cleaning and feel frustrated in the kitchen. I have been created this way by God. Must I be forced to suppress my God given gifts so that I may conform to the classical 'female image'?

I have always seen the relationship between a man and a woman as being a joining of Gods creations. A balanced and working relationship as one where both can fulfil the purpose that God created them for and use the gifts that they were given for the glory of God.

In modern urban society we are not farmers or hunter/gatherers any more so the physical difference between men and woman makes little difference. Today we have dishwashers, washing machines, and vacuum cleaners. Why can't men use these? The answer I get given is that I must look in the Bible to see what a womans work is and what a mans is.

Please could someone explain this to me. I've read the forum, but I don't see how, if the mans job in the world has changed, does the womans not?

Good grief. Why is it that some men use the bible as a weapon to hit women over the head with instead of actually reading it?

Welcome SecreTails. You might just as well ask how you can change a dog into a cat because it's not your thinking that's the problem, but his.

How do you change another person's thinking? Is understanding this yourself suddenly going to make you content with doing these traditional womanly chores?

BTW, I don't enjoy cooking and cleaning myself.
