A discussion started in another thread which lead to the queston of gun ownership.
It had nothing to do with the original topic per say, but it brings up a good question, so I am starting a new thread.
Should Christians own guns in today's world? _________________ Pain is inevitable;

I don't see why not. There is nothing inherently wrong with owning a gun. _________________ JP's Mind - my blog

Hi eleven, I don't own one now, but I've had rifles & shotguns in the past, most of my life. I like to hunt when I was able.
They were just setting around in the way. So I sold them.
But no, I can see know reason that a christian shouldn't have a gun, if they want! _________________ Much Love Nobby

I own several, so I hope it's all right.
I can think of few reasons why being a Christian would make a difference.
Sort of like asking if Christians should own computers.
Look at all the trouble they can find with one of those things. _________________ -----------

Ok step away from the the Budweiser, and post your message one more time. But only AFTER you make sure the safety is on.

Yeah, but owning a computer won't kill anyone.
It may kill a relationship, but both parites can still walk away.  _________________ Pain is inevitable;

Being raised in the US I've been brainwashed since a kid that everyone should have the right to own a gun.
I don't personally own one for two reasons.
1) They scare me. I had a roommate years ago that had over twenty guns. He took me out several times to go shooting so I would get over my phobia, but they still scare me.
2) I have a temper. I don't get mad very often, but I've had several times in my life that I was blazing mad for about 30 seconds. If I had had a gun in my hand I would have used it - that's why I won't own one. I'm one of the people that should NOT own a gun. _________________ Cybermonsters (Most Beloved Admin)

Thought your were talking about the words I left out of my post, your quote of me, not the fact that I said I seen no reason a christian couldn't own a gun!
I've never owned a hand gun in my life. I never felt I needed one. They're for protection or if you want to shoot someone. Since I didn't figure I needed one I never owned one! I just liked to go quail & squirrel hunting! _________________ Much Love Nobby

I find this to be very interesting. The statistics show that more people die daily in car accidents and alcohol related events than with guns. So if I understand the argument correctly, guns shouldn't be owned and cars shouldn't be owned and alcohol shouldn't be consumed.
I am a gun owner and I believe that it is a constitutional right. If some one wants to harm my family I have been given the right to own one.
Should the Disciples own swords? Did Jesus rebuke them for carrying a weapon?
No I don't think so. I fear people who fear my guns. I fear a government that fears my guns.

well...having 4 children in the house we just will never have one. I guess I don't think it's wrong for a christian to have one, it just shouldn't be in a home with children, IMO.
everyone here has made a valid point so far. _________________ ____________________

Hi everyone
I think, we aught to go to God’s Word, for the answers to life’s questions:
And the Bible does have something to say about this question......
Defending yourself......
| Quote: | Exodus 22:2-3
V.2 If a thief be found breaking up, and be smitten that he die, [there shall] no blood [be shed] for him.
V.3 If the sun be risen upon him, [there shall be] blood [shed] for him; [for] he should make full restitution; if he have nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.
|
Defending others.....
| Quote: | Proverbs 24:11-12
V.11 ¶ If thou forbear to deliver [them that are] drawn unto death, and [those that are] ready to be slain;
V.12 If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider [it]? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth [not] he know [it]? and shall [not] he render to [every] man according to his works?
|
--------------------------------------------------
There is a place, for responsible gun ownership in a Christians life. _________________ Matthew 7:13-14
V.13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide [is] the gate, and broad [is] the way,
that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
V.14 Because strait [is] the gate, and narrow [is] the way, which leadeth unto life,
and few there be that find it. |

ChristianWomen1,
I read your post and would like to pose a question. If one of your children were walking down the street and found a gun, would it be better for them to understand what it is and how to handle it verses having no idea and hurting themselves or another?
Many parents would say, "Oh my child wouldn't touch a gun if they found one". Not a very safe approach.
I respect your position and concern, but maybe as they get older you might consider signing them up for a gun safety course, for their own protection.
When my children were little I taught them how to shoot.They aren't afraid of a gun and they clearly know how to handle it.
God Bless
