|
|
| Quote: | Senior rabbis have voiced their criticism over the apparent removal of a note stuffed between the cracks of the Western Wall by U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama last week, and its subsequent publication in the media, the BBC reported Friday.
Obama visited the Western Wall, Judaism's holiest site, at the end of a two-day trip to Israel, as part of a tour of the Middle East and Europe.
Obama wrote a note and stuffed it, as many do, into a crack in the wall, situated in the heart of Jerusalem's Old City. Tradition says that requests left between the holy stones will be granted. According to the BBC report, no one knows who removed the note after the presidential hopeful had left.
The content of the note was "Lord ? protect my family and me. Forgive my sins, and help me guard against pride and despair. Give me the wisdom to do what is right and just. And make me an instrument of your will," according to the Israeli newspaper that published the message.
BBC reported that this publication sparked the rage of the senior rabbi in charge of the Western Wall, Shmuel Rabinovitz. He said that the note was a private matter between God and Obama and that its removal was highly inappropriate.
Twice a year, when the cracks in the Wall become full, the prayers and messages are removed and buried - without being read - in strict accordance with Jewish law. |

you know..the more I think about it, something just doesn't feel right. He wasn't alone at that wall, he had the press following him, you know? Maybe this note wasn't even left with a pure heart??
I don't know...just thinking outloud I guess. Only God knows what's going on for sure... _________________ ____________________

I had the same reaction, ChristianWoman. You just never know with a politician. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt...but grudgingly. _________________ "All wish to possess knowledge, but few, comparatively speaking, are willing to pay the price." - Juvenal |

| Quote: | The yeshiva student who pried Barack Obama's prayer note from the Western Wall has apologized.
Identified only by the first initial of his name, Aleph, and with his face obscured, the student went on Channel 2 television Sunday to confess that he took the presidential contender's note last week and passed it to the press.
The resulting coverage of Obama's private, handwritten musings on hope and sin added to the mystique of his campaign visit to Israel but drew international criticism, including from leading rabbis who said Jewish morality had been compromised by the publication.
Obama, the presumptive Democratic candidate to face off against Republican John McCain in the race to succeed President Bush in November, has not commented on the episode.
"I'm sorry. It was a kind of prank," Aleph said, his hands shaking as he fingered the tightly wadded-up sheet of King David Hotel letterhead. "I hope he wasn't hurt. We all believe he will take the presidency."
Channel 2's religious affairs correspondent said she had passed the note from the yeshiva student to the Western Wall Heritage Foundation, which reinserted it - deeply - between the ancient slabs of stone. |

Question?
How do we know this "student" wasn't also a plant?
Ya know what...........
I think I'm just going to ignore all of the garbage, and just wait until Jesus returns to rule.
Anyone else feel that way? _________________ Pain is inevitable;

It wasn't my first thought...but you could place an eye lash between it and my second thought. I'll still give him the benefit of the doubt...but grudgingly. _________________ "All wish to possess knowledge, but few, comparatively speaking, are willing to pay the price." - Juvenal |

It was the thought of plenty of people, but the guy who took it came forward.

Reading what the note said the thought of it being a set up never crossed my mind until it was mentioned above. So I think I am going with my initial instinct which is to believe that it is legitimate and be appalled that someone would do something so terrible. _________________ Nowhere does the Bible state that the sexual orientation of homosexuality is sinful — it merely instructs anyone, gay or straight, that any sexual act that does not spring from a place of love, respect and commitment to the other person involved is sinful. |

| Quote: | Producer films theft of Barack Obama's prayer note from Western Wall
By Haaretz Staff and Channel 10
Barack Obama's two-day visit to Israel in late July was somewhat overshadowed by the removal of his prayer note from the Western Wall and its publication in the daily Maariv.
Maariv said a religious student gave the note to the newspaper.
Rabbis condemned the note's removal as sacrilegious and pundits called it an embarrassment for Israel. The perpetrator subsequently apologized for his actions.
But now, the removal of Obama's note itself can be seen, thanks to independent producer David Cohen, who documented the theft.
The notes are supposed to be removed twice a year, on the eve of Rosh Hashanah and Passover, and placed in a repository "to keep them hidden from human eyes," Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, who supervises the Western Wall, said after Obama's note was removed.
"This sacrilegious action deserves sharp condemnation and represents a desecration of the holy site. Notes placed in the Western Wall are between the person and his Maker. Heaven forbid one should read or use them." |

Any other Christian who has left a letter in the wall? What kind of Christian would go to the Jews' wall to do it? Christians, and the Jews, and Islam are in one place there; except of course, Catholics.
The right letter or the wrong letter, makes no difference; who calling himself a Christian would leave a letter in that wall? |
