Gee, I dunno. Could it be because people can't be responsible for thier own actions???
| Quote: | | That's true. But as a parent, you will also be asked, why did you leave the responsibilty of protecting your child to someone else? |

Well that's wonderful! Now we're talking!

Eleven: | Quote: | | My two children are grown and on there own now, but believe me, if I thought there was even the remote possibility of porn at my child's school, I would march right down there and make it my personal fight to GET RID OF IT!!! |
There is a lot that has changed since your children were small. About 8 years ago is when schools in my area started balking at having content filters on their service.
Realistically, you cannot always be where your children are. You know that. I am always with my daughter at the library but many parents are not.
I get to know the children and parents where my child will be spending time. Many parents don't. Even then, there are times when things go on that you have no control over. For example, my daughter came home and started asking questions one day about ex-Pres Clinton. They were very graphic questions about his sexual exploits while he was in office. She did not believe any of it. I responded by telling her only that he had done some bad things while he was in office. I asked where she heard about the specifics. She told me a friend we had gone to church with told her. I know the friend and the mother. They have been guests in our home many times.
So, if you think you can keep your kids safe while they are stuck in the muck and the mire of this world, think again. Go ahead and make it easier for adults to view porn. What would Jesus advice on this subject be if he were here today?
How many of you as pre-teens or teens did things behind your parents back that you knew to be wrong? Have you ever told your parents about the things you did without their knowledge? How many of you had at least one stay at home parent who was involved in your day-to-day life?
Really, can we watch our children close enough to keep them from the harm that a so-called freer society is forcing upon us? Or are we becoming a nation that is imprisoning ourselves and our children with our own selfish desires?

I don't give a rat's behind who balks about it. It's the right thing to do, so let's get it done!

Welcome to life! Jesus said, there will be poor always, and the sheep would be out amongst the wolves.
We have those who are poor of morals, and will always prey upon the innocent. But you are still misunderstanding me - (perils of the internet, I guess. ) But I am asking you to PLEASE listen carefully to what I am saying.
I am in total favor of blocking porn. I have no problem with that. Personally, I am no fan of porn whatsoever. The problem is, this law doesn't say "let's block porn." What is says is, ALL websites have to be family-friendly. ALL WEBSITES????????
So the limitation is not just to porn, but to violence and adult subjects as well.
For example, let me ask you this:
Would a boxing match be considered family-friendly?
I know it is a sport.
A seventeen year old would understand it is a sport.
But a two year old only sees two people hitting each other until someone bleeds. So what do we do?
Block this because a two year old might be "damaged" by what he is seeing?
This law is ridiculous.
If they re-write it to say, we are going to restrict porn on the internet, both nationally and globally, I would be right by your side. But that's NOT what this law is proposing. It wants ALL websites to be family friendly (or child approved) and that is completely proposterous! _________________ Pain is inevitable;

The archives of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (and other metro Atlanta newspapers) and the archives of various Atlanta television stations holds the answer to your question. I would rather not go into the details here. _________________ "All wish to possess knowledge, but few, comparatively speaking, are willing to pay the price." - Juvenal |

Well, I seem to be on the minority here as well.
There are two statements here I can agree with.
Porn is vile, and disgusting, and should be kept away from our children (and adults, IMHO).
Federal regulation of the internet is NOT the way to successfully keep porn away from our children. _________________ -----------

Not necessarily. It depends what the law states.
There were once "laws" that stated black people could be bought and sold. Who was that protecting? _________________ Pain is inevitable;

Why are you so sure there will be a next one? That's rather morbid. _________________ When Science was in its crib, Religion tried to strangle it. When Science was in its infancy, Religion tried to abuse it. Now that Science is grown up, Religion wants to be in its good graces.

Because Jake just found out that the baby Maria is carrying is not his!!! Maria slept with Olaf, but only because she felt sorry for him seeing how his evil brother Henry swindled 6 million dollars from the family shoe clogging business.
Meanwhile Jeremy, (he's the one who told Jake about Maria) told Jake only because he wanted payback for the time Jake made fun of him at the school prom 30 years ago. So Jake is planning to kill Olaf, but Henry (that's Olaf's evil identical twin) is laughing his -ss off because Maria never slept with Olaf, it was Henry the entire time. So now Jake kills Olaf, Henry gets away with embezzlement, Jake goes to prison, and Maria gets to marry Jeremy who has been her true love this entire time.
Unfortunately there is a car accident on the way to the wedding...........
