2 cor 4:

1Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;

2But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.

3But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

4In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

5For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake.

The apostles as well as all true God called men, preached Jesus christ the Lord, and not themselves..

What is it to preach Christ Jesus ? Its to biblically set forth the glorious person and work or works associated with his person.

The scriptures present him as a priest, a king , and a prophet, unto His church, his body..

He is also designated a mediator, as the mediator between God and men 1 tim 2:

5For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

6Who gave[as priest offering] himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

When we think of him as a mediator, we must add the fact, that he is the mediator of the new covenant, just not a plain mediator, but the bible specifically says, the mediator of the new covenant..heb 12:

24And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.

Its in this capacity, he serves his church as priest, king, and prophet..

Looking at him briefly as a priest, we find that He was a Divinely appointed priest heb 5:

4And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron

5So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.

He was of a eternal priesthood heb 6:

20Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

The scripture says this about melchisedec..

heb 7:

1For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;

2To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;

3Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.

Jesus christ, was setup and anointed from everlasting to be the priest of Gods people..this is alluded to as well in prov 8:

22The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.

23I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.

The word for set is nacak and means:

to pour out, pour, offer, cast

a) (Qal)

1) to pour out

2) to cast metal images

3) to anoint (a king)

b) (Niphal) to be anointed

c) (Piel) to pour out (as a libation)

d) (Hiphil) to pour out libations

e) (Hophal) to be poured out

2) to set, install

a) (Qal) to install

b) (Niphal) to be installed

This is indicative of The Lord Jesus christ being set up, enstalled inti His mediatoral glory, as the wisdom of God to His elect or chosen people..

I believe Isiah saw a vision of The Lord Jesus christ in His High priestly garments, as the Lord of Host..observe Isa 6:

1In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the LORD sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.

2Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.

3And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

The interesting thing here about what isiah saw was his train..what is a train ? Well the word in hebrew is shuwl and means :

skirt (of robe)

a) of high priest's robe

b) of God's train, city as woman, ignominy, defilement (fig)

Isiah saw Jesus christ in His preincarnate Glory as the Lord of Host, in His role of High priest, in the order of melchizadec..

we know the vision was of The Lord Jesus christ because of the new testament scripture in jn 12:

37But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:

38That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?

39Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again,

40He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.

41These things said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake of him.

BTW, this truth also should squelch any doubt regarding the Trinity and The equality of The Lord Jesus christ with The Father, for both are called the Lord of Host..

When Jesus prayed that The father restore him back to the glory he had before the world began, this is what was referred to..jn 17:

5And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

As priest, he was a sinless high priest heb 7:

26For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;

Its a travesty today , how many teach the peccability of christ, or that he literally became a hunk of sin on the cross, and many other blasphemies.. The Lord Jesus christ was undefiled, holy, and seperated from sinners in all imaginable ways possible..This had to be to perform his dutie to God as High priest..take a look at the preparations of aaron in this regard before he ministered on the day of atonement..i.e ex 29

Now, in teaching the work of christ as the High priest, its only reasonable to know for whom he was a High priest ?

The bible tells us heb 2:

17Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

His brethern in the flesh, the people..notice the sins of the people..not all people, but his brethern, those he came incarnate to Identify himself with..

heb 2:

16For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.

All people are not the seed of abraham, but biblically speaking a chosen people or seed..

ps 105:

6O ye seed of Abraham his servant, ye children of Jacob his chosen.

isa 48:

8But thou, Israel, art my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend

Gal 3:

29And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

This seed was a promised offspring as Isaach was gal 4:

28Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.

Amen, this was a divinley chosen and protected seed, remeber what occured with Isaach and Ishmael..

rom 9:

6Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:

7Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.

So abraham had two seeds, one after the flesh, but one after the promise..the latter is the one christ identifed with..

For he himself, was a child of promise..

isa 7:

14Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

So it was a specific chosen people that Jesus christ was to be High priest for..daniel alludes to this as well dan 9:

24Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

again compare to heb 2:

17Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

and Isa 53:

8He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.

Amen, This is preaching the person and work of christ, this is one of the many works he done[ as High priest]For as paul says, we preach not ourselves , but Christ the Lord..
