From Wikipedia....

Quote:
Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed is a controversial[1] documentary film which claims that educators and scientists are being persecuted for their belief that there is evidence of design in nature. Hosted by Ben Stein, it claims that what the film calls “Big Science" allows no dissent from the scientific theory of evolution, and blames the theory for a range of modern movements from Nazism to Planned Parenthood.[2][3] It is due to be released on April 18, 2008.[4]

I suggest we all see this documentary. It's due out, in a couple of weeks.

Uh-huh, as you see Dawkins put into suspended animation, you be laughing all right. However, without the vodka you'd be crying.....ahh that will come with the hang-over anyway.

'Big Science'! Remember what I was saying about disrespecting science? Sounds to me like Ben Stein is a definite science-hater.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

As for scientists not allowing dissent on the topic of evolution, it's not that they don't allow it... It's that there isn't any, at least not from credible scientists.

And Ben Stein: Surprise, surprise, he has no science education:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Stein

Highlight:
Quote:
Stein has written publicly denouncing the theory of evolution, which he and other intelligent design advocates term "Darwinism," declaring it to be "a painful, bloody chapter in the history of ideologies," "the most compelling argument yet for Imperialism," and the inspiration for the Holocaust.[15][16] Stein does not say belief in Darwinism alone leads to genocide, but it is a necessary component.

Darwinism is a necessary component for genocide! It's impossible to make that argument stick for the Nazis, and it's certainly impossible to make it stick in the case of the Spanish Conquistadors, the European settlers in the Americas, the Khmer Rouge, the Armenian Genocide, and the genocide in Rwanda.

What an impressively ignorant thesis...

Yes, crying, something to the effect of "how can people buy into this nonsense!?"

Actually no, I'd still be laughing. It's the only way to stay sane when surrounded by people that actually believe that there's a vast conspiracy among scientists to keep dissenting opinions out.

And hangovers? Please. I can keep up with anyone I know and I've never had a hangover. One liter split between four people is six or seven shots each so it's time for some math. Let's say I start as soon as I enter the theater and I'm going to have seven shots (since I'm driving). 20 minutes from when we get in until the movie itself starts (what with trailers and whatnot), then the movie itself is 90 minutes. So an hour and 50 minutes. Ten minutes or so from when we walk out of the movie until I drive, so two hours total. That means by the time I've gotten back to my car I have approximately five drinks worth of alcohol affecting me (officially--I have empirical evidence that my body digests alcohol faster due to helping the local police department train their DUI cops). Based on body weight, this would put me somewhere between .081 and .085. However, due to my experimentally-verified liquor-digesting system (I have drunk enough over the course of three hours as part of the DUI training to put me to 0.120 based on body weight and only came out at 0.090) I'd probably be at something closer to .070 and thus legal and nowhere near danger of hangover. Even if I drank a full half liter that's about 14 shots. That'd be pretty retarded to drink over the course of a movie (though I did close to it so that I could stand to watch Van Wilder 2) I'd still be drinking again a few hours later. There's no way in Hell I'd get anywhere near the wheel of a car (I'd be at something like .200), but I'd be perky in the morning.

I'm not saying I'm actually going to drink this much (or that I'm going to drive if I do) just doing my best to bore everyone by overexplanation. It was just a throwaway joke and then you basically accused me of being a lightweight #evil

Actually, if I do go see it, I'll probably get someone else to be the DD and start drinking well before going. There's a great sports bar nearby with pool tables and shuffleboard Smile

I for one will definitely NOT watch it in the theater, because I most certainly don't want to give that evil man any money. He's probably already way too rich as it is, and already has way too much influence. No way am I going to contribute to that.

I'm going to watch it, though. Not that anyone here really needs to watch it... We've heard all of the arguments in it and more. The Hitler being Darwin's best friend stuff is ancient; Trinity's been going on about it for years.

Ben Stein is the paid on-screen talent ,as far as I can tell. Logan Craft is the man behind the documentary.

Is that what they're calling it? A documentary?

In any case, I don't care if it's Logan Craft or Ben Stein. I'm not giving my money to either of them.

Incidentally, here's an interesting factoid about 'Expelled': In order to trick evolutionary biologists into participating in the interviews, they told them that they were making a documentary about the intersection between science and religion called 'Crossroads'.

They also carefully devised a long set of interview questions and hid the ones with a creationist slant within them, the idea being that they would throw all the rest out during editing and then quote mine like crazy in order to make the evolutionary biologists look bad.

Militant creationists really have a fundamental problem with honesty, don't they?

As do atheistic evolutionists.

Howso?

Oh, let me guess: The way we keep saying how the universe was created from nothing at all and how all the perfection in the universe including life could come around by purely random chance is fundamentally dishonest.

So in other words, just going back to creationists having a fundamental problem with honesty?
