Anywho...

He is the hero of the Atheists...

Could you point out these atheists who engage in hero-worship of this guy? I don't know of any...

Of course you don't.... I wouldn't expect you to visit some of the blogs and anti-creationist websites out there that spend half of their band width extolling the virtues of Lil Dick... Rolling Eyes Just take a peek at our sister board CT for examples of folks quoting Lil D’s God Delusion… it is really pathetic.

So he's their hero because they quote him? But but but, you quoted him too!

How so? I'm not familiar with this, but I don't claim to be well-informed on any anti-God screeds he may have written. Can you point me to some?

I wouldn't figure you would be aware of any... but then again, I'm sure you aren't looking to hard either. It took me all of... um... 32.8 seconds to find this one Rolling Eyes :
Lil Dicky in the God Delusion wrote:
"arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully" (The God Delusion, p. 31),

So yeah... homey does mischaracterize the God I worship... is there anything else you would like to add?

I agree - he's not necessarily a homophobe.

Well, from the above, he's your hero, but you act like he's your enemy, and you are supposed to love your enemies, according to Matthew 5:44.

Indeed... and there are those who do make it pretty tough... Like I've stated... I'm not a good example of Christian virtue... I don’t have a lot of empathy for those who decide to lie about my God in a shallow, myopic, and completely ill-informed polemic. If Lil-Dicky wants to engage in such behavior, while at the same time expecting courtesy from me… sorry… I’m not that ‘big’ of a person… I wouldn’t give him the time of day. I might, however, loan him a toothbrush… but beyond that… sorry.

Here we go again Ana... you asserted that you knew what I meant to write earlier in this thread... and now you know what I try or try not to do. Confused or disgusted You are really a special girl with these abilities. Perhaps you can tell me what were some of the issues I addressed in my morning prayers today? Maybe I wasn't meeting your definition of 'trying'... maybe I was.. .could you let me know if I did or not? as if I didn't... I'd really be in trouble with God as He would be acting ‘petty’. After all, He is a racist.... bloodthirsty God… according to this fella you seem to have so much agreement with. Rolling Eyes

No.

You know, that would be a good topic for another thread - discuss whether all of those qualities Dawkins attributes to God are in fact wrong.

Trinity1 wrote:

I'm not knowing, I'm supposing. Nice try though. If you love someone, you try to do what's best for them, right? That's usually how love works, anyways. In this case, who do you suppose is better suited to decide what's best for God - you or him? I'm assuming you think God knows what's best. So if you love god and are trying to do what's best, I would say that means you're at least trying to do what he wants you to do.

Who says I'm not trying Ana? You? If so, how do you know I’m not? Maybe I fight the urge to sit outside his house or classroom at Cambridge everyday with a 30.06 zeroed at 700 meters and pop him behind his left ear with a 180 grain FMJ (and no, before everyone gets their undies in a wad here, calls the FBI… homeland security… reprimands me for advocating violence… I don’t feel this way)… while my contempt for him is only channeled here on an obscure message board making references to his terrible looking teeth? Wouldn’t that be at least be better? Me trying to do what’s best?

It certainly is the God described in the Bible. Were you somehow not aware of this?

How many genocides did God engineer?

How about 1 Kings?
20:35 One of the members of the prophetic guild, speaking with divine authority, ordered his companion, “Wound me!” But the man refused to wound him.
20:36 So the prophet said to him, “Because you have disobeyed the Lord, as soon as you leave me a lion will kill you.” When he left him, a lion attacked and killed him.

I implied earlier FFT... I am not going to waste me time outlining the falisies of Dawkins yammering when he applies no contemporaneous context to the events, refuses to apply a consistent exegesis of scripture, and assumes that those who have labored all of their lives searching, researching, analyzing and consuming scripture somehow missed theses incidents and their contexts as Dawkins suggests.

He is God hating fool FFT and history is littered with the corpses of those who have tried to discredit the character of a Holy and just God as outlined in the Bible. If you think Dawkins scholarship is worthy of acceptance over that of Augustine, Aquinas, Jerome, Luther, Calvin et. al... be my guest. I am neither going to try to convince you otherwise, nor am I going to waste my time debunking Lil Dicky's yelp. All it is is another attempt of a small man who hates the idea that there is a Creator he is accountable too… and he wants everyone else to wallow in his misery. I’m not going to hop in the gutter with him… sorry.

Since, you're implying he didn't think about what he's saying, that means you're not even thinking about what he's saying, so why does what he says work you into such a lather you can't even talk about him without resorting to infantile insults?

You brought his words up, but you don't even want to talk about them? Interesting.

You said, "I've never claimed to be an example of any type of what a Christian should be... or do," as an excuse for your repeated ad hominem attacks on Dawkins (which is exactly what you are doing by insulting his teeth and avoiding discussing his words). I am merely saying you probably ought to at least try to avoid insulting him, which thus far you are showing that you are outright unwilling to do.

He was mentioned when you became concerned over the tone that creationists use when refering to evolutionists.... I only pointed out that your concern only dealt with creationists... and not evolutionists wh engage in that same discourse... seemed a smidge hypocritical to me...

Tell you what... when he stops insulting my God... and brushes his teeth... I'll stop too. I believe him to be a fool… just as Romans implies… ‘professing to be wise, they became fools’.

What the heck are you talking about? He came up in this thread HERE when you brought him up as a culprit of talking about "the formation of life and how it 'became' through evolutionary processes."

Since then you've continued to talk demeaningly about Dawkins in an attempt to justify why you should behave this way.

Maybe you could point me toward whatever discussion it is you think we're having where my "concern only dealt with creationists... and not evolutionists wh engage in that same discourse".

For what it's worth, I'm not concerned that you're denigrating Dawkins. I actually think that the fact that you have to resort to such pettiness shows you can't refute the points he's making that irk you so. Of course, your inability to refute Dawkins' points doesn't validate them, but it doesn't invalidate them either. As a fellow human being, though, I'll ask that you don't bother with the ad hominems any more - they don't accomplish anything and there's no reason to propagate ill feelings toward other people.

Of course, that must be why he is the way he is. Because he doesn't like the idea of being accountable to a creator.

Can't possibly be anything else, nope.

I tend to hear a lot of Christians say this. Usually when discussing homosexuals.
I think Ana covered this already though.

Well... for someone to jump right into the middle of a discussion... making the types of remarks you did... I assumed you were well read into this topic. Look... I don't know you from Adam.. I don't believe we have interacted on this message board before... maybe we have and I just don't remember.... but in the middle of this thread you chimed in... out of the blue... with:

Maybe I'm not a high-enough level atheist to be invited to the Shrine of His Unholiness, Richard "the Great" Dawkins and partake of the ritual sacrificing of the baptised babies in His name?
You know, as I've left the temple on more than one occasion, I've thought I detected the scent of baby blood and burning Bibles. It was just a hint on the breeze, and just for a moment, but naturally I figured it was only my imagination.
Maybe it wasn't after all...

Your participation in this thread is perfectly acceptable… but it looks like you like to engage in the same behavior that bothers you... and then expect others to simply accept your rude remarks. The premise is that most people assume that Christians will simply accept the rude remarks and behavior of those who don't share their same beliefs. If you want to be rude, antagonistic, sarcastic, et. al.... please don't be so shallow and hypocritical when the same is returned... while pointing out one of my admitted shortcoming as a pathetic excuse to engage in said behavior.

Forget what Augustine.. Aquinas, et. al... had to say. Lil Dicky, a god hating zoologist, has got the appropriate, irrefutable.... consistently applied exegesis we can all accept without challenge...

Paaalease FFT... the guy is a certifiable idiot when making consistent commentary on the Bible. Perhaps you would appreciate some direction for some critical commentary or Lil Dick's... um... opinions?

So you're going to ignore what I brought up in defense (hah) of Dawkins' points, then lambast me for ignoring context?

And then call him a certifiable idiot. Certainly, you are doing everything you can to retain credibility Rolling Eyes
