Often, when someone works for a place of business, if they are fired or laid off or quit, the company simply announces that the person is no longer employed. They do not go in to detail as that would be a violation of the former employees privacy.

I understand that this is a little different and I think it would be nice to know if someone is no longer on the board but do we need any more details than that? I certainly don't think there should be a thread called 'violations' as what's between a member and the mods is between the member and the mods.

Maybe there could be a thread labeled 'Membership status' where general announcements are made without going in to detail.

I did like one thing I saw on that other board that 'Ana' used as an example and that is the idea of a 'cooling-off' period or a temporary suspension for someone whose infraction may not be very serious. It would also be nice to convey/relay this information to the person who is being suspended/evicted/booted....whatever.

What do you think about this?

Luv

Conspiracy theory about wilber aside, one time would be sufficient.

According to this post, you've labelled the whole thing as 'taboo'.
Here's the one where you and Nobby tell everyone not to ask questions or talk to him because we will be frowned upon.

These aren't explanations. If he did something bad, you can just say "Apoc has used filthy language and this will not be tolerated" or "Apoc has been harrassing members via the private message system" (for example) and that would be quite sufficient.

Amen!!! Well put, Ana.

Mojo, take a look at how long your explanations were. Wasn't that a lot of work and annoying for you? Why should you have to go thru all that?

Yet at the same time, some people are banned for posting responses that are too long even when they are on topic. So how is that fair?

Couldn't we just put an end to all that, and all the endless PM'ing complaints by opening a "warning" thread, or "last chance" thread or whatever you want to call it?

Having a separate thread would also eliminate someone using the excuse that they never received a warning because it was lost in a topic thread someplace.

FFT also made a good point about letting people know how long they will be banned for a violation. That's a good idea too.

Not automatically.

I've been reading this thread from beginning to end. I've about made up my mind that there is going to be members that can't handle the truth of what's going on.
OK! you ask about Atoz. He was warned 4 times. & not banned! It was the members on this board that finally got him banned. We got so many red flaged post! Only Admin & myself, see them!

As far as I can see this thread has become no more than
a place for some to dig up a bunch of dirt to criticize the moderators and Adminisrators.

Any of you guys/gals perfect? I know that I'm not & I don't expect any of my Mod's are either!

Most very time a major warning has been post on the open board, it has either been ignored, or we have to put up with a certain amount of flack from someone, Or both! Confused or disgusted
When I send a PM, I know if it's been read or at least seen by the member involved!

Now if you want to post to my Mod's & I that's fine, but
if you continue drag up dirt for the sole purpose of bashing us with it, then this thread will be over! Confused or disgusted

Perhaps the perfect example of why we shouldn't bother trying to explain ourselves. Even when you open up in the interests of goodwill, some people will take that opportunity to drag you down and dish the dirt.

Maybe I'm blind but I didn't see any 'dirt dragging'. I mostly see questions, concern, and suggestions.

For the record - as well as being pretty off-topic, I'm a big fan of the red flag system. I think it's a good way for regular members to be heard when they have concerns about a post. What do you do with a post that gets red flagged with no explanation attached?

I agree. What dirt dragging???????????
This forum, like it or not, has become a community of friends. Congratulate yourself, because that's what makes a successful forum. But when people and threads disappear, it seems like there is something to hide.

We're only trying to come up with a more peaceful, and effective system in which to protect all, including the mods.

Why does it always have to come down to an "us against them" mentality? Sad

You tell me. Seems to me that the OP started with that 'mentality':

Quote:
There is nothing more cowardly, or cruel than to throw somebody (I don't care who) out without the courtesy of an explanation. And if you (administration, moderators, whoever ) are so sure you are correct in performing such actions, then why do in behind everyone's back, YOU COWARDS!!!

It was explained very clearly, and very thoroughly that no participating members have been booted from this board without being given numerous warnings, without being given numerous opportunities to change their ways. An explanation that throughout this thread which has for the most part been ignored.

For the record I agree with much of what Mojo has to say about letting people know what is going on, but I balance that with a deep conviction that what transpires between a particular member and the moderating staff is simply no one else's business, and actions the administration takes regarding members is purely between them and the particular member.

If the admin wishes to make a post stating that a member is no longer a member, and provide, or not provide a reason for that action, then they are welcome to do so as far as I'm concerned. Just know that the questions as to why will come up regardless of whatever consensus is reached, because that is human nature - to be curious about things that are simply none of our business.

All in all this thread started with an 'us against them' mentality. It was asserted in no uncertain terms that the moderating staff was at fault, evil, pawns of the devil, what-have-you, and before anyone 'assumes' or feigns innocence they should take a long look at what has been said and seriously consider the reality of the situation.

Ana I like the red flag system too. When you use it I can go right to th post that's being reported. One should type
a short note. It helps to know what's on your mind.

Ana, I've never had that happen yet. I would assume it would still lead me to the post being reported. But unless the problem was very easy to see. It sometimes requires reading several posts leading up to it. Whereas if you give me a hint of what I'm looking for it might take less time! Very Happy

Then why is it neccessary to post links to past posts which can be taken out of context without reading what led up to them? And eleven was very quick to jump on it.

Not that I repent of the post, for **in context** of what was happening at the time I wouldn't change one word, but such misleading methods in an attempt to gain points are underhanded. I'm sure I could cherry-pick a few choice posts myself.

Such is not condusive to the spirit of moving forward in better understanding and co-operation.

Look. Do what you want. Handle it any way you want to. But understand, you run the risk of someone getting seriously hurt, or worse. The only reason I'm so passionate about it is because I've seen the worst happen. I'm just trying to help you avoid another tragedy.

Not intested? So be it.

Well, in the spirit of moving forward, I wanted to show that I searched for your explanation (since you said one was given) and found instead that explanations and the search thereof is taboo. I was looking for closure so I could show that Apoc's dismissal was an example too (both an example for other members and an example of all people want to hear).

I'm not in this for a mud-flinging and I'm sorry I've caused you to become defensive about it. I happen to see that people think there is a problem and I'm stepping up to find a solution. Here's my example again.

I thought this was what we were doing - talking about the possibility?

Well Ana, if I misjudged your intention, I'll be the first to apologize, but the link you provided wasn't a good example.

And you can hardly blame the administration for being defensive given some of the PM's received.

I'll repeat that I think the members should be made aware of who has been banned and I also think banning for short periods for lesser offenses is worthy of consideration. However, given we are just in the process of discussing these suggestions in this thread, the mods need time to weigh them.
