Adam will surely die

Notice what God says to adam.

gen 2:

16And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

17But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

God gave adam this command , and also predicted that He will one day eat in disobedience and surely die..

Now when i say predicted , I mean God ordained it by the counsel of His own will. eph 1:11

In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

Now, was it Gods will that adam sin by eatng of the tree even though He commanded him not to ?

The answer is Yes, thats why God said not if you eat , but when you eat, in that day you shall surely die.

If we know anything about Gods Law , we know from scripture that Gods law is spiritual..rom 7:

14For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.

This abiding principle is true wether speaking about this one law in the beginning or the 10 commandments later to the house of Israel , Law from Gods Mouth is spiritual because they come from the very nature and essence of God who is Spirit..jn 4:

23But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

24God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Now , what sayeth the scripture about adam in another place ? 1 cor 15:

45And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

46Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.

47The first man is of the earth, earthy; the second man is the Lord from heaven.

So we see that adam was natural , earthly , yet He was commanded by His Sovereign to do something that in all actuality could not do. Thats right, he was set up for failure , there was no way a natural earthly man could obey a spiritual command given by His creator. In fact 1 cor 2:

But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

This verse applied to adam even before the fall , becuase he was a natural man..

So what we have here is clarity to Gods words, in the day you eat , you shall surely die. It was inevitable that the fall would occur.

The law even in the garden was not given for man to keep but in order to show the exceeding sinfulness of sin..

rom 7:

12Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.

13Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.

In actuality adams death that day he ate , actually brought life and hope , because the law which was given him slew him and opened upthe the revealation of the redeemer of the elect.. gen 3:

15And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Thats right , the law in the garden served the same purpose as the law given in caanan..gal 3:

22But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

23But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.

24Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

Amen God in His wisdom choose this way to reveal to His elect their saviour and redeemer..

Now of course this does mean I believe that adam was an elect and that he stood as head naturally only for the elect..

Many in false religon today believe adams sin was a mistake or something God truly would rather not have happened...but we can see the ridiculousness of this reasoning by virtue of the fact #1..It dishonors God completely and is a Jab at His wisdom and Greatness , and #2, God never inteneded for a natural man to keep His command when the command was spiritual.

Gods intention and plan was to lead his elect adam and those in him he represented to christ , who was always the sole reason for creation in the first place..

eph 3:

9And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:
10To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,

11According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:

col 1:

15Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

16For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

17And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

Thats right , the redemtive purpose of christ has precedence over all creation, in fact all things were made and created , adam the devil the heavens and the earth every thing was created subordinate to and in pursuance to the eternal purpose of christ jesus..His redeeming Life death burial and resurrection..

Thats why adam must surely die , for the glory of God..
