We the People are the ones who have the power to change the way this country runs. And if enough people chose to change their lifestyles then we could change the world. But today it's just so much easier to order a pizza or pop a microwave dinner in the oven, put the tv on anything that's "funny" that takes us away from our own problems for awhile and then hit the bed and begin it all again tomorrow.

So true!!! But now I'm asking myself......
Self, what the heck am I doing this for????? Question

Jesus wasn't kidding when He called us "sheep." Rolling Eyes

I'm hoping to make a positive change this time with real results. I'm still a smoker and my hubby and I are working together now to try and quit. It's a lot easier when two people are working together at something than going it alone.

You're trying to quit smoking, AND lose weight at the same time??? Isn't that gonna be a little tuff?

Shouldn't we be more involved in community as a whole? Just asking.......

I think so. I don't think this involvement needs to come in the form of censorship though - I think we need to be there for the kids - to explain things and to help them view television (and ALL incoming information!) with a critical eye. Help them filter it for themselves.

I don't know. Actually I don't think censorship is necessarily a bad thing. Remember a few years back when Tipper Gore made it her campaign to have CD's with adult language labeled with a warning? The music industry went ballistic screaming, "censorship, censorship"!!! There was no "censorship", it was only c bringing to the public's attention that a particular CD had vulgar language on it. Nothing wrong with that. Call it what it is! But the artists knew it was gonna hurt their sales, so they were up in arms about it.

I mean, I am in full favor of artistic freedom, but where do we draw the line when it comes to public broadcasting? Let's face it. What may be appropriate for an adult is not appropriate for a child, and I really resent having to do the FCC's job in my own home because they are afraid some actor or musician or advertising company may throw a hissy fit.
Seems as long as you can throw the bucks around, you can shove this crappola down people's thoats.
Enough already!

You cannot serve God and money.
We need to decide, people.

I'll admit..losing weight is going to be a lot easier than quitting smoking. But it's a goal we're hoping to accomplish this year.
I picked up a magazine the other day by good housekeeping..It was a heart-healthy magazine. I thought it was about weight loss, but it was all about taking care of your heart. I never realized how hard it really works to keep us alive.
The article starts off with:
100,000 times.
That's how often your heart expands and contracts in just one day to push about 2,000 gallons of blood through 60,000 miles of arteries, capillaries, and vessels.

And I started thnking..2,000 gallons and 60,000 miles in one day...YIKES!
And here I am complaining about 75 gallons of fuel and 700 miles in one day..
I think it's time I gave my heart a break and help it breathe a little easier seeing how hard it works for me, it's the least I can do.
Between smoking and being overweight I'm really not helping it do it's job at all.
I took my blood pressure this morning and it read that I was borderline hypertension...I have no clue what that means...But then I got on the scale and it said I was 175 fully clothed. So even with all my clothes on, shoes and all I've lost 3 pounds just this week.
I'm syked!!

It's going to be tuff no doubt..but not impossible..
Very Happy

It could be a few different shows... The Waltons, Eight is Enough, Little House on the Prairie, The Brady Bunch....

LOL

I'm glad you came up with it as I was about to mention The Beverly Hillbillies, The Andy Griffith Show, that new one that Sally Fields is in (about siblings), etc....

Yeah, ok Rolling Eyes

You know, your avatar comes from a show that endorses evolution. Are you okay with that?

Anything more I could possibly say would derail the thread.
