hey i read this just now and forgot once again to get the name of the site to give them credit whether good or bad...but i did find some of the things intersting, if they are true...

......................................................

75 per cent of suicides in the UK are by men.
(but one can understand that...i mean we are talking about the uk and all).. Smile

Older men have the highest suicide rate in the UK.

Men make up 96 per cent of the UK prison population.
Men are more likely to be given custodial sentences than women for the same offence.
58 per cent of remand prisoners have been assessed as having mental health problems.
39 per cent of sentenced prisoners have been assessed as having mental health problems.

Family

The breakdown of families also has an impact on the lives of young boys. Delegates at a seminar organised by the Home Office (1999) heard how boys who had no contact with their fathers were more likely to be violent, get hurt, get into trouble and do less well at school.

A recent study confirmed that there is a significant link between the level of involvement by fathers and a boy being in trouble with the police. The study found that 35 per cent of boys with little or no involvement with their father had offended, compared to 18 per cent of boys with a highly involved father. Highly involved fathers emerged as a major factor in boys’ general wellbeing. A caring, emotionally supportive father seems to protect boys against depression or suicidal thoughts.

Education

Research has shown that when boys and girls are misbehaving equally, boys receive more frequent and severe penalties. Boys, particularly low-achievers, receive eight to ten times more reprimands than their female classmates. These reprimands are more likely to occur in front of classmates, whereas girls are more likely to be taken aside to be reprimanded.

Mothers are more likely to kill their sons than their daughters.(i cannot express how happy i am to be alive Smile )

Here is a typical example of health funding bias in favour of women:

A Man diagnosed with prostate cancer has only one-quarter of the cash spent on research into his disease compared to the amount devoted to a woman’s breast cancer.

Every year about 34,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer while 27,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer. There are also similar numbers of deaths from the diseases — 13,000 women die from breast cancer while 10,000 men die from prostate cancer.

The government-funded Medical Research Council (MRC) shows the same bias as direct state spending on research. The latest figures available from the MRC, which are for 2001, show that it spent £4.8m on breast cancer and less than £500,000 on prostate cancer.

i just thought it was kind of intersting...wanted to see what others thought about it if anything... Very Happy Very Happy

Thanx, Tss!

Very interesting.

To me, those stats prove Ezekiel 16:44-45.

Ezekiel 16:
44Behold, every one that useth proverbs shall use this proverb against thee,
saying,
As is the mother,
so is her daughter.

45Thou art thy mother's daughter,
that lotheth her husband and her children;
and thou art the sister of thy sisters,
which lothed their husbands and their children:
your mother was an Hittite,
and
your father an Amorite.

To me,
it is Hatred or absence of Love, not absence of dad, which is the key factor in boys going bad.

With Love,
mothers can by themselves
and
fathers by themselves
can successfully raise both boys and girls.

Without Love,
both boys & girls will be badly raised even with both parents present, or with one or the other present.

Ditto about suicide:
Love is what makes life worth living.
Life without Love is not worth living.

in the kids aisle of view,
atoz

That's an interesting statistic. Now go check out the statistics regarding the money spent on studying heart disease in men and the money spent studying heart disease in women. There is more funding for mens studies. There are more studies done on males. Men are typically treated more agressively for their symptoms and now guess what? For the past 20 + years, more women than men have died of heart disease in the U.S.

My Dad died of heart disease at 56. My Grandmother (on my Dads side) died from heart disease when she was 68. In comparing lifestyles though my Dad lived a little on the wild side for years and he was overweight (about 240 lbs and 5'10 or 5'11" tall) while my Grandmother never ever smoked or drank and she was never obese.

I think there are definitely many disparities between the way men and women are treated. Wonder why that is... Question

In all fairness to the ladies.........

Men get paid more than women for doing the same job.

Often insurance companies will cover the cost of Viagra, but birth control pills are not covered.

Women typically end up paying much more for a new car than do men.

In recent studies, it has been shown that teachers in classrooms are guilty of gender bias, meaning they will call on male students and encourage them to speak more than they will female students.

In a marriage situation, it is proven that men reap more benefits (speaking health, and emotional support) as do women who typically work twice as hard as men do.

I think it all depends on what studies you are looking at, but the bottom line is, relationships today are a far cry from what God intended.......IMOHO.

Sorry about your dad's death at such a relatively young age, Tss.
But I am sure that you were thankful for the memories.

Be blessed by that Mass you and wife will attend tomorrow.

with Love,
atoz, your bro

Once, I was in the market for a new car. I was interested in this sweet El Camino and had the money to buy it as I have worked most of my life. It was a used car lot and I test-drove the vehicle and fell in love. I wanted to talk turkey with the salesman, maybe get the price down just a bit. He told me he does not "dicker' with women, to go get my husband and he would talk price with him.

I walked out of that car lot, went to another dealership (on my own, mind you) and bought a Ford Taurus, cash transaction.

I've never had a brand new car in my life, and probably never will. Only because it really grinds my gears to drive off the lot and have immediate depreciation on the stupid thing. Mad

I'm sorry to hear about your loss too TSS.

I just thought of something else... I recently took a CPR class too to renew my certification. I recall discussing the difference in symptoms between men and women but I do not recall any different instructions about the CPR itself.

What I'm getting at is it may be a little more difficult to administer CPR to a woman who is...well, let's see, how can I phrase this delicately....gifted.

I do remember being told about a woman who pursued a lawsuit against her 'good samaritan' as he had to loosen some of her clothing to be able to administer life-saving CPR. My goodness! I'd get over my shyness in a hurry if it's a choice between someone seeing my bra or me dying.

I wondered, however, after reading your intro on this thread why so many men in the UK choose death over life. That is mind-boggling and so sad. There are many disparities in the way men are treated vs the way women are treated. Some mistreatment is aimed at men, some is aimed at women. And we haven't even begun to discuss the racial issues many contend with.

It will be good when there is neither male or female, greek or jew, slave or free when we are all treated with universal equality.

It's amazing that there are all these studies done that prove the devestating effects of our actions both for ourselves and our offspring but nothing really changes for the better as a result of their findings.

Did that article say why so many men in the UK kill themselves or why mothers are more likely to kill their sons than their daughters? In some countries, girls are born less-than and killed at birth just because they happen to be born female.

Crazy world we live in, eh?

imho...she should have to pay the man the amount she was suing him for...anyway...

i don't know and it did not say why the men there are more suicidal...not that i read...

nor did it discuss why woman are more prone to kill their sons than their daughters....not in the place i got it from atleast...i don't know if that one is something that can be answered or not...if it could be narrowed down...like IF it happens most often in the first six months or so after giving birth...maybe its something chemical...but there were no figures or reasons given about it that i saw...

but it is a sad state of affairs regardless...

Oh, don't get me started on hospital stories.
I once had a man refuse to have a brainwave test despite the fact that his doctors believed he had suffered a stroke. Reason he declined the test?
He didn't want to take off his toupe'. Rolling Eyes
