Nothing here about this country which, like Pakistan has experienced a military dictatorship that abuses their people.
Is it fatigue over other countries troubles or no one that cares. _________________ My boss is a Jewish carpenter.

Boss,
Or it could be that the major news networks dictate what we care about. I was cheering the Burmese monks that opposed oppression, and was horrified that they were cut down by gunfire. But the event only bore brief mention before we went on to more important things, such as Brittany Spear's behavior in court. |

Sad, but true, SMDT. Perhaps also because the problems in Myanmar/Burma are not a closely linked to western foreign policy. _________________ One would never discover the limits of soul, should one traverse every road -- so deep a measure does it possess.

FWIW, Myanmar is a major exporter of food and raw materials to China....that's probably why the US hasn't squaked too much.
If the left decries 4000 US deaths in 5 years trying to democracy to Afghanistan and Iraq, can you imigine what the price would be to reshape Burma? _________________ Link to intro post of "who I am"

Speaking as a Christian the Bible (Ro13, 1Tim4 etc) teaches that we're supposed to pray for all kings - irrespective - that Christians may live unmolested lives, which, in Myanmar, they generally do if they leave politics alone.
Also, having been there three times, I'm slightly nervous about the safety of full-blown democracy for such an ethnically fractured country. A bit more democracy would be good, but too much and Myanmar could easily turn into another Bosnia.
But ultimately this issue is up to God (Dan4:32) not us.
God bless

The trouble comes when a Christian holds the greatest commandment as "going into all the world and making disciples of all people" that assures them they will in fact bother other people. That's what evangelism is all about. _________________ My boss is a Jewish carpenter.

Well that is the price we pay for doing what God commands, isn't it? We go and preach and face what trials come of it, in faith.
I could see if some politicians were going to these countries and preaching US politics and then wanting/demanding the government's assistance/influence for protection. But missionaries have no such recourse, nor should they think they do. When on a mission for God, the whole 'US citizen' thing is irrelevant, we disavow our earthly national identity and put on the mantel of citizens of the Kingdom of God. Do we not? _________________ JP's Mind - my blog
