Hi, can anyone shed some light on the word mercy for me? My preacher said that the Greek meaning is pity. Something does sit well with this, maybe it is my human understanding. Input would be very appreciated Very Happy

Hi Kph,

Mercy means Love most of the time,
and
when it does mean mercy, that mercy is based on Love as its opposite, justice, is also based on Love.

When mercy is based on Love, it can mean pity since pity is also based on Love.

Psalm 103:

4Who redeemeth thy life from destruction;
who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;

13Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.
