Why is there a separate forum for questions on JW,s
My background:
Scottish, Although live as a norwegian
Brought up in presbatarian church of Scotland
Also in Baptist church.
Was LDS (Mormon for 6 years. spent a two year mission in CA.
Since moving to Norway in 1990:
I have been a member of North sea Baptist,State norwegian Lutheran church, Free Lutheran church.
Til now I feel more comfortable thinking as a baptist might. I know the importance of christian fellowship. I have learned more through my involvment with mormons how to look and understand others beleifs in a way that a whole life christian would not! I do not suffer from tunnel vision as many of my fellow christians do.

I like you have been to several different churches and learned something from all of them. Even when talking to JW's. They have a very strong faith and belief system. They really take the time to help you understand what they believe and why. I don't believe in everything they say and I am not one of them. But they have taught me that, we celabrate many things that really should not be celebrated the way we celebrate them. I don't feel that anyone is doing something horrible by celebrating these holidays like we do but we need to make sure that we are teaching the original truths so that our children know the truth.
I personally don't think of the JW's as a cult. They base their religion on the Bible and the only thing I have noticed reading their bible to others is the name of God being written instead of the lord, most high, and so on. I do feel however that they can be just as wrong as anyone else. The main thing that will get me out of a religion the quickest is bad mouthing another religion and it is sorry to say that most religions do this. No one religion is right. They all have a plus and a minus.
Just like on here you may agree with one person on one post and completely go the other direction from them on another.
My God have mercy on us all throughout our search for the truth. |

JW's a cult?
Because Christianity is a cult that was born out of Judaism. The term "cult" used to be a harmless synonym for "new religious movement", but after widely publicized suicide groups like Jim Jones or David Koresh the term became a negative label. Now when someone doesn't like or agree with another religious group they label it cult when in fact none of us has a monopoly on "the truth".
God and God alone is spirit sovereign in the affairs of men.
Because of the anti-science, anti-secular bent throughout the larger body of religions, world wide, all religions are increasingly viewed as part of the problem and not the solution. Because religious institutions are proud and self righteous by nature, they have failed to "confess their own sins", they have failed to update themselves as science is forced to update itself by it's own technique of disseminating facts when it finds them.
When contemporary man reviews the geologic records of an old earth and then listens to our stories of Noahs ark, a young earth Adam and Eve, the suspicious miraculous history of a racially chosen people, it is all of us that become part of a brain washing cult in their eyes.
Cult, you say? Those who live in glass house's shouldn't throw stones.

I asked a question. I did not make an acusation!
Intresting post though! My views on how one would define a cult are similar. I go to a church where the mens group have adopted ideas for praise and worship that are not biblicaly found. The leader of the group is looked apon as being right most of the time because of his spirit filed appearance and so therefor easy to follow.
Before they know whats happend they follow him instead of Jesus. Sadly I see this often in churches that profess to be christian. |

I agree with you in that I do not beleave in everything they say either! However my dilema (if it is a dilema?) Is that I don,t agree in everything anybody says
I had a nice conversation just last week with a JW though. The man visited me before about 7 years ago and he came back again last week. I remembered him from 7 years ago. A man determined in his faith |

Neither do I and I don't think you will ever find a person that believes exactly like you. You just have to remember that we are all in different places and God helps you to understand what you need at this time. Just like now you might read a verse and it mean one thing and in a few years read the same verse and it means something different.
How powerful is that. That God Is so amazing that he could have created something, The Bible that can give us guidance on anything and on any situation.
God is with you in your search for the truth. |

from my "cult religion", the Urantia Book:
"One of the most eventful of all the evening conferences at Amathus was the session having to do with the discussion of spiritual unity. James Zebedee had asked, "Master, how shall we learn to see alike and thereby enjoy more harmony among ourselves?" When Jesus heard this question, he was stirred within his spirit, so much so that he replied: "James, James, when did I teach you that you should all see alike? I have come into the world to proclaim spiritual liberty to the end that mortals may be empowered to live individual lives of originality and freedom before God. I do not desire that social harmony and fraternal peace shall be purchased by the sacrifice of free personality and spiritual originality. What I require of you, my apostles, is spirit unity--and that you can experience in the joy of your united dedication to the wholehearted doing of the will of my Father in heaven. You do not have to see alike or feel alike or even think alike in order spiritually to be alike. Spiritual unity is derived from the consciousness that each of you is indwelt, and increasingly dominated, by the spirit gift of the heavenly Father. Your apostolic harmony must grow out of the fact that the spirit hope of each of you is identical in origin, nature, and destiny".
We need "unity, not uniformity".

Thankyou for your reply , But personaly I only find a compilation of books to find truth about Jesus from which is known today as the bible. I do look at other sources too for past history like the apocrafa But the Urantia is not one of them. I could write s book myself taking quotes from here and there quite easily. Tell everyone that NASA found it on mars just to lead off suspicion that its man made. I was shocked to read a comment from one of the books readers Quoting: I have finaly found the truth. Shocked into histerical bouts of laughter to put it more clearly |

I know, I know, join the crowd. The people who rejected Christ also hid behind "the official writings of religion" in their day. Previously, those who rejected the prophets did the same thing, but then after a few generations the writings of the prophets became "scripture". A few generations after Christ, the writings of men about Christ "became scripture". In a few more centuries, after the final battle of the Catholic church against the Urantia Revelation, the UB will become the norm. True to form UB believers will one day be faced with a newer revelation which will "up-date" the Urantia revelation and those UB believers will dare to persecute the new truths.
Myself, I tend to listen to what is being said, not so much the source..............like for instance, a 28 year old carpenter from Nazareth, of all places, the son of God?

Which is the same 66 books as JWs use, and they probably are more true to them than Den norske kirke for all I know. So why are you posting a poll calling JWs a cult and assuming you're not?
I have to be honest, unless it's as utterly charming as Colter's self-deprecatory use, to my ears the sort of Christian who throws the word "cult" around is not far removed from the sort of person who calls gays "qu*%rs", or uses the N-word (en betegnelse på mennesker med svart eller brun hud).

Therefor for all I know, This is a JW based site or a something other based site? I looked at the forum and JW,s had a separate are all of there own. Not that I have anything against this, I was just curious
I apologize if I cause offence to you or anyone else. No offence intended! |

Hi AMK
Thanks for reply. I also just saw this: | Quote: | I should have posted here first. No comment I make elsewhere can be more important than what God has for me or that said to God by myself or others.
Therefor I struggle with a neck injury which keeps me off my work. It may destroy my career which means I may not be able to provide for my family. This can also make one feel somewhat depressed.
Prayer ie comunication with God, The god of Abraham,Issac and Jacob for me by others would be very apreciated. Thankyou! | Ooosh. Okay. May God indeed be with you
Re this: | Quote: | | I looked at the forum and JWs had a separate area all of their own | Fair enough. No this is not a JW site. In fact judging by the titles of some of the posts, with such delights as "JW's proven to be false, worthless, and deceitful...so why", that area appears to be primarily used for attacking and vilifying JWs, not exactly "all of their own". Though I don't for a moment imagine that was our kind board owner's intention.
Incidentally, as the OP poster you can edit the thread heading, should you wish to, though I'm not saying you should.
God bless

The separate JW forum was started because it was a way of categorizing or locating in one place all the discussions that were coming up that pertained to teachings that are particular to the JW organization. The moderators and admin of the site have done this on a number of occasions, not just with the JW forum. For instance, there were threads repeatedly popping up discussing the 10 commandments and laws of the Bible. To give us a place where all discussions relating to the laws of the Bible could be located, the 10 commandments forum was opened.
The JW forum is not there to single them out, separate them, or draw a distinction. It was to keep topics of discussion organized. |
