The first thing that came to mind when I read the name was that show Gomer Pile from back in the day....

The image the name conjured up for me was of a woman, on the upper side of middle aged who has lost some of her teeth, has gray hair and dresses in large gray mu-mu like garments. Isn't that awful? She was probably much prettier than the image in my mind.....

Picture that Smile) She was at least attractive enough to be a prostitute, but depending on the standards of the day... Just kidding Wink

She was an example of what God thought of Israel when they went off and practiced behaviors they were explicitly forbidden to. Just like we expect God to put up with us, Hosea was told to put up with Gomer. How's that for OJT?
