just some verses I plucked out...

2Ki 19:28 Because thy rage against me and thy tumult is come up into mine ears, therefore I will put my hook in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest.

Job 30:11 Because he hath loosed my cord, and afflicted me, they have also let loose the bridle before me.

Job 41:13 Who can discover the face of his garment? [or] who can come [to him] with his double bridle?

Psa 32:9 Be ye not as the horse, [or] as the mule, [which] have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee.

Psa 39:1 [[To the chief Musician, [even] to Jeduthun, A Psalm of David.]] I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.

Pro 26:3 A whip for the horse, a bridle for the a,ss, and a rod for the fool's back.

Isa 30:28 And his breath, as an overflowing stream, shall reach to the midst of the neck, to sift the nations with the sieve of vanity: and [there shall be] a bridle in the jaws of the people, causing [them] to err. Confused or disgusted

We shouldn't have to bridle our tongues but if the need arises we aught to know how...

I know this post is a few months old but I think the subject matter is worth contemplating.

Bridle our tongues....What does that mean? Does it pertain to one or two items on the following list? Maybe it refers to all five:

1) Don't speak contemptuously of one another.
2) Don't gossip.
3) Don't belittle others.
4) Don't swear.
5) Don't take the Lords' name in vain.

What is taking the Lords name in vain? Is it swearing or speaking in an irreverent manner about the Lord?

How do you tame an unbridled tongue?
