here is what i have been wanting to know...the lady in your church...when she interpretes...what is it?...who is it to?...

She is speaking to the congregation. Sometimes she is already behind the pulpit as part of the Music Ministry team and sometimes she is sitting with the congregation at large.

Her messages are usually messages from God about how God loves us and what is going to occur in the last days and warning us to stay alert and be aware. I mean most of what she says can be found at various places in the bible. But the first time I saw/heard her do this, I was ... to be honest.... a little freaked out about it.

I have been to several churches... everything from Lutheran to Baptist to JW to Mormon etc... and I have been going to this church for about 2-1/2 years. The Baptist pounded the pulpit and thundered their messages, the Lutherans were much more contained and did a lot of prayer requests, the JW's ... well don't get me started on that and the Mormons.... well, I grew up in Utah and have a lot of LDS relatives and had a lot of LDS neighbors and friends so, needless to say, it came with the territory. I went to a few meetings in their church and studied briefly with the LDS in my younger years.

But I had never witnessed someone speaking in tongues until I started attending this church. The first time my daughter (8 years old) witnessed it, she looked at me and her big brown eyes were like saucers! Now, it doesn't weird her out like it did at first.

Thanks again!

Much Luv and have a great night! Very Happy

but you quoted this...

luv wrote:
1cor14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

now be careful here Wink Very Happy there is more to it..

.also(side note)...one can interprete their own tongues...but one cannot speak tongues in the church unless two are speaking in tongues, one at a time and one interpretes...for JESUS said where two or three are gathered together HE would be in the midst...and paul teaches us that the SPIRIT divides the gift severally as HE wills...so if there were only two or three gathered...then for two to speak in tongues one must by able to interprete his and anothers....technically... Very Happy ...biblically... Very Happy ...

now back to the verse i quoted you quoting...if a person who is speaking in tongues is speaking and praying to GOD...why is the interpretation to the congregation?...

and acts 2 and 1 cor 14:21 is not a good reason or defense for it....me thinks... Smile ...

From what I know of this, since I have seen it firsthand and asked questions about it.
One person speaks it, though they don't know what they said. One person interprets it. I was told it is God speaking through the person. Although I don't know why it has to be two people. The first time I seen this, it freaked me out a bit, cause i didn't understand it.
I hope this helps out a bit.

ohh boy......this topic is as near and dear to me as, what day is the sabbath........aaaarrrrrgggghhhhhhhh....

I have seen this numerous times, I have heard people intrepret other people and so on. Personally I don't put a whole lot of stock in it ( I am referring to the "unknown tongue, not the gift of tongues for edification which I think is valid.)

What I wanted to get to was this. It seems the theory behind tongues (the unknown kind) has evolved since I have been going to churches.
First it was taught that the gift of (for lack of a better term), angel speak was a sign of the baptism of the Holy Spirit according to the diversity of gifts.

Then it was taught that all will receive the gift of angel speak.

Now it seem that one MUST have the gift of angel speak in order to demonstrate that yes, I am indeed baptized by the Holy Spirit.

what???????????

One of satan's miracles...is the conterfeit gift of Tongues.

If a person has not studied exactly what the Bible says the gift of tongues is for.....they will be deceived.
