Interesting article here:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/worldnews.html?in_article_id=439315&in_page_id=1811

Cartographers redrew the world map based on % of "x" where "x" ranges from defense spending to alcohol consumption....

data is from 2002 I believe...

no real point, just thought it was neat Wink

Wow, I'm totally buying a house in Africa! I bet I can afford one right now!

And it looks like Japan spends a lot on its military... What's up with that?

Thanks for the link, Pondering! That's a fantastic little video. It really puts into perspective how little official land Jews have today!

It's also interesting (and worrying) to see how massive Islam is. Of the major religions, its definitely the most barbaric. That wasn't always the case, but it certainly is today.

yeah I thought it was neat...

As for the barbaric part...I think it's always been barbaric...but so was everyone else (the Inquisition, Witch burnings....) it's just the rest of us have "moved on" Wink and generally, don't aspire to return to the 7th Century...

Yes, that's exactly my point. Islam is barbaric in many different categories including women's rights, lack of democracy, separation between church and state, warfare (i.e. terrorism); they literally want to regress back to the dark ages.

Other religions are also barbaric in *some* of these categories. For example, Hindus also treat women like crap. They don't do the female genital mutilation thing, but it's still pretty darned bad there for women. But on the other hand, they are an outrageously peaceful people.

An interesting note is that Christian fundamentalists (primarily in the U.S.) are also trying their best to regress civilization back to the dark ages, but unlike in Islam, they seem to only have marginal power to do so. But make no mistake about it; they're essentially the same creatures.

I think Christian fundamentalists primarily want to redo the so called "enlightenment" and send science back to try it again. Primarily those fundamentalists are protestants and the middle ages were almost entirely Catholic controlled.
