jn6:48-58I AM that bread of life. your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. this is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. I AM the living bread which cme down from heaven: if and man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I give is MY flseh, which I will give for the life of the world.
the jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, how can this man give us HIS flesh to eat?
then JESUS said unto them, verily, verily, I say unto you, except ye eat the flesh of the SON OF MAN, and drink HIS blood, ye have no life in you. whoso eatheth MY flesh, and drinketh MY blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. for MY flesh is meat indeed, and MY blood is drink indeed. he that eateth MY flesh, and drinketh MY blood, dwelleth in ME, and I in him. as the FATHER hath sent ME, and I live by the FATHER: so he that eateth ME, even he shall live by ME. this is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth this bread shall live forever.
vs61b-64a ...doth this offend you? what if ye shall see the SON OF MAN ascend up to where HE was before? it is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto ou, they are spirit, and they are life. but there are some of you that believe not. |

| well the well of scripture is so deep I am sure you can draw much in contemplating the fact 12 baskets were left over by going along the lines of 12 baskets, 12 apostles as a representation of anyone who gives up mother, father, brother, sister, house for the kingdom of heaven will be rewarded 100 hundred fold on earth as well as in heaven. Or quite rightly that the bread and fish were representitive of the manna in the desert and of Jesus as the living bread come down from heavne But it can also be simply understood as that the love of god is so much more than we will ever need that we need never be hungry or thirsty again. |

1 kings19:19-21 so he departed thence, and found elisha the son of shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, nand he with the twelveth: and elijah, passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him. and he left the oxen, and ran after elijah, and said, let me, i pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then i will follow thee.
and he said unto him, go back again: for what have i to do with thee? and he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat.
then he arose, and went after elijah, and ministered unto him. |

How about this view of the twelve baskets:
The fact that there was more left over than they started with is a demonstration of God grace, but the fact that there were twelve left over also tells me that the people didn't really ever receive the nourishment that was available to them. Somehow the people just skimmed by the real meat of the issue and left far more than what they took in. |

The twelve baskets left over teaches that the ministry of Jesus whereby he feeds the people the true bread from heaven is to be continued by the apostles and is their chief responsibility. The baskets will never be empty.
When the apostles got caught up in feeding the church people literal food they were corrected. They were told that their job was to minister the word not the food. And, deacons were empowered by the authority of God via the apostles to care for the ministry of food while the apostles ministered in the word. However, the deacons may also minister the word as they are able. Thus, Stephen by doing so exemplified teaching.
