working together here...
On the sixth day of creation, God finished his work. And he saw that all was good. And as evening began God went on a Sabbatical. He rested on the seventh day. And He sanctified it for himself. This is His day of rest.
We are told to keep his sabbath, that which he had instituted in the beginning for himself. This seventh day he set aside to have no work done in it.
When Jesus came, He claimed that the Sabbath Day was made "for and sanctified for The Lord". This day was the and is the Lord's day of rest.
When Jesus bowed his head on the cross and gave up the ghost, he said"It is finished. Signifying the end of "something". And to me this represents "That Day", which the Lord set aside for "himself" to rest in.
If those that were present at the time had been keeping the sabbath day, and they were...they would have been hallowing that sabbath day of rest.
That is why the women didn't go to the tomb before the sabbath had ended. They honoured God by keeping his day holy and sanctified and did no work on that day.
The question then is, Since Christ rose from the dead on the "First day of the week, is there still yet another Sabbath Day that we are keeping for a future event?
We say we are in the sixth day of creation, but aren't we rather in the second day. If a day is as a thousand years, and since Christ rose from "rest" it has been 2000 + years, are we not still in the second day?
Now six days men should work but the seventh is holy and for the Lord's purpose. It was made by him, and for him, to do with as he saw fit.
That day he did what is written in the prophets. He came and redeemed us from death. We were all dead, but now have all been made alive with him. So we too are in the second day.
Is there still another Sabbath coming in which Christ will set aside for himself once again?
If so, then it is for this reason that we keep it. It leads us to what is to come as a "sign" or "landmark" as to where we are in time.
If there is no more need for Christ to come and find rest "again", then there is no reason to keep it or to remember it for future reference.
However, if there is still a rest to come, then we aught to honor this day that he made for us to honor him in. And if we're not watching...will we miss it?
When God created the first day...this was the day "light" came into the world. This is the same day that Christ was born and came into the world,as the "Light of the world. this is the same day that Christ rose from the dead from his rest on the sabbath day....
and unless those days were shortened no flesh would be saved...
seven days went from 7000 years to 33 1/2 years.
Paul says there is still a day of rest coming...
work with me here on Hebrews 4:
Hbr 4:1 ¶ Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left [us] of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
Hbr 4:2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard [it].
Hbr 4:3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
Hbr 4:4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh [day] on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
Hbr 4:5 And in this [place] again, If they shall enter into my rest.
Hbr 4:6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:
Hbr 4:7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
Hbr 4:8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.
Hbr 4:9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
Hbr 4:10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God [did] from his.
Hbr 4:11 ¶ Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
maybe I should start another thread on hebrews 4...
but how do you understand this?
It looks to me we're still looking for sometime to come, and if that's the case we aught to be watching how he told us to watch...
just my two cents
God Bless

Isaiah 66:22 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.
66:23 And it shall come to pass, [that] from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD. _________________ Matthew 5:11 Blessed are ye, when [men] shall revile you, and persecute [you], and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. |
