Well, they're already melting rapidly. The experts say that the worst is going to hit somewhere between 2050 and 2075, so that isn't actually that far away...

Here's a rather dismal article called The Long Emergency, which paints the picture that we won't be able to pump so much pollution into the air by around 2020... of course, by then, we probably won't be able to do anything to reverse the snowballing effects of global warming.
