ISI... what is your point here? You have prominent Christian Pastor, who turns out to be a sinner... a vile hypocrite... and your point is? Christians are sinners? Christians are hypocrites?
One of the primary reasons I am a Christian is because I am a sinner. The vilest of hypocrites. Stained from head to toe in sin.
I guess my point is... so what? This is exactly why we need Christ. It should be a rallying call to run to the cross. Instead, it has become a sounding platform for those who hate the 'Light' to turn people away from God's grace and forgiveness!
If this is your point... my bad... but if not, I'd like to know why you posted this.

Trinity, the dude is human, so it is fine if he sins. That's not the problem. The problem is that he isn't just a pastor; he's a politician. He is perfectly happy to pass judgment on others and to try to legislate morality.
It's not ok to pass judgment on others, and it's not ok to try to force your own morals onto others. But these things are ESPECIALLY not ok if you yourself break the very rules that you're trying to force onto others. |

Trinity-as i have pointed out in the past...there isnt always a big point to posting other than discussion itself. Too many members have a divided line where they say-"your on this side, i am on that side"(IE-post an article about Bush and if it isnt right wing oriented you are painted into a leftist picture and vice versa). Thats not right all of the time or even much of the time.In a discussion forum many different issues are discussed. Some more, some less. Nothing is as simple as here and there. There is quite a bit to this story...such as possible ties to the white house and the spiritual 'guidance' of a pastor with a hidden problem, now exposed. Can a pastor whos doing wrong and lying provide proper spiritual advice and steer the boat? How should it be handled when exposed? What should he have told his family and should he have done the interview with them present...heck a lot of discussion questions come up. Something can be learned if we are not afraid to discuss it, and not afraid to see the real issues.
Why not post it? Thats a better question. Did you not want to look at it, not discuss it? I would like to know. Is it possible that a member here does not want to discuss this because it shows a hypocrasy, dark sin, politics related and doesnt support neo con politics. Maybe even might possibly show just what baloney is goin on right in front of our faces, right in front of America, and could possibly change something for the better? Are the right wingers embarassed and afraid of this? Help me understand Trinity. I see quite a few occasions where issues are dismissed immediately by members, just because they appear left wing, without even a consideration. Thats pretty close minded if ya ask me-and I would suppose those same people that dismiss the discussion will also deny they are right wing and wont see otherwise. Am i right? I answered your question, what say you?
Hypocrasy-such a deep and dark study-happens daily in all walks of life, and how to deal with it-well that is a discussion. Hypocrasy itself drives people away quicker than anything and keeps them away, both experienced and new christians for sure.
What is an American? Whats the definition of one and where do I find one? |

What? Am I embarrassed... afraid... close minded over this issue?
ISI, I asked the question because you seemed to be taking some type of twisted amusement out of this Pastor's ordeal. You posted a few of those ( ) laughing faces at some of the articles... as if you thought that the idea of a Pastor who would speak out on drugs... homosexuality... was being a hypocrite and now being exposed for being what he spoke out against… was somehow amusing to you.
This has nothing to do with left or right and has everything to do with the news play a Pastor gets when he falls. Look at Jimmy Swagert... Jim Baker... it was almost like the media had some type of fetish to continue to harp on these guys. Only God knows what would happen if a Pat Robertson or Jerry Falwell had similar stories...
I guess my point is why push the dagger deeper into this man's chest? He screwed up. Isn't it just enough he lose his job, in shame, and we move on… or do you need to twist the knife now? |

So... if I were to say we all need to pay higher taxes... and then skirt the tax laws myself it would not be OK? |

Well... P... this iwhat happens all of the time from our legislators. If they pass a law, then we should expect them to follow the law. This fella... once it was discovered he was doing what he was doing... out he went. Same thing with those who break the laws... once you get caught breaking them... out you should go. |

| In a related bent, it's like complaining about your tax dollars going to support the teaching of evolution then it being revealed that you weren't paying taxes anyway (Hovind). |

So we should just leave this poor man alone right? Says Trinity. Why twist the knife?... asks Trinity
How about we just have a discussion on the facts-why are you taking this as a personal thing? The issue is not gonna go away any more than the John kerry statement thing...I didnt see you protesting that discussion...but wait..this one targets right wingers...ouch-lets neatly cast it aside! (J/K)
Trinity-you are smart enough to know this man was involved with GWB. The proof is there. Instead of throwing in a red herring of taxes, why wont you acknowledge that GWB and the 'christian right' are what is considered conservative, and the political position of this man proves such... Then we can discuss the real issue...
it could be viewed you are side stepping and avoiding the truth. (This is the no spin zone... )
Enjoyment-twisted-no not at all-but the case in point is proven, as usual whenever somebody feels uncomfortable about an issue they say'Why are you bringing this up?"
And Trinity-just for the record-i looked up there at my posting and i see the smiley faces at one article, not some articles. Of course you will banter that they are all the same- I say no-otherwise you would use the same one for each point... ....
If a man breaks the rules he should go you say-OK when are the neo cons gonna go? A great many rules have been broken by the Bush Admin....
Discuss.... |

BTW... the tax thing was only an analogy.. it had nothing to do with changing or diverting the disucssion in another direction. |

Well you can see my other posts as to starting this discussion...But to begin with this a good example of how the right wing is percieved as supporting Christianity. Lets start with that. |
