Interesting topic....lots of comments input here randomly.

First, TSS, generally, US custom is that the Constitution applies to everyone "resident" in the US (or its terrorities and bases overseas)...that's part of the issue regarding the detainees in Gitmo...

Second, I find it interesting that we're talking about "illegal" aliens, but what we mean are Mexicans. How many "illegal" aliens are from Africa, Europe, the MidEast, and Asia? a fair percent...the bulk are Latin American (and probably a few squirely Canuks too, but whose gonna miss them Smile)

Last, Europe is having been problems with assimilition. P#s, you ref'd about folks not bringing their culture with them? What about all the Muslim demands being levied in Europe? It's the current trend and groups like the ACLU and other "liberal" groups generally support that junk...Rolling Eyes

I think that people moving from uncivilized countries to civilized countries should do themselves a favor and adopt the legal customs and ideals of their new country. They can keep eating curry or raw fish, listening to whatever music they prefer, and wear whatever they want (within reason). As far as I'm concerned, we should be TOTALLY liberal on those aspects of culture.

But when it comes to doing primitive things that are only done in barbaric countries, we should stamp it out. If the ACLU supports FGM, then they're objectively evil. I doubt they do, though.

Wow, that correction is way worse than the original. That's obviously a big problem.

Purity of race and National security. The asian countries have a very strong urge to preserve the purity of their race. In Korea for example Amerasian children from the korean war and from those soldiers stationed there, are routinely ostracized and often killed or left to starve if thier american, or other nationality, parent does not take them out of country. China has a similar record, as do many of the asian countries.

On the other side, some brighter news - a friend of mine (a white guy) who was a classmate in university moved to Japan after graduation and married a Japanese woman, and they just had a baby about a week ago. So thankfully it isn't a 100% racist continent...

That is a true thing, and yet a very unfortunate consequence of this that human rights are severely violated. Here's a look at conditions in 2003 - they haven't really improved since then.

Did you miss the earthquake?

Yes, I did - it happened about a week before we went there. The damage to Oahu was minimal, so it didn't really have an impact on our vacation. Even the locals hardly talked about it. Other islands had some worse issues though, such as one that has a highway with 42 bridges on it - rockslides and knocked out bridges basically halted everything on that island, and they're still working on fixing the problems, but travel and shipments are severely hindered.

That would be the big island.

My in-laws-landed in Maui two days before the quake, not too much to report on their trip either except their inter-island cruise was cancelled.

Didn't the power go out in Oahu?

BTW, where did you stay?

Yeah, the power did go out in Oahu, but then the power got restored. One thing a local lady did say was that people were lined up like crazy at the Baskin Robbins (and other ice cream shops) because they were selling ice cream half price and then some started giving it away for free. Our hotel was a block from Waikiki beach, but instead of sticking around there, we got bus passes and toured the island on our own. We got to talk to a lot of the locals, and we got to avoid a lot of the tourist-hustle. The beaches where the locals play are much nicer, for the most part, than Waikiki, too. Have you been there?

I lived on Kawai for three Very Happy

And it was a playground after Hurricane Iniki as it knocked over a bunch of trees which were swiftly commandeered as forts.

If they're illegal immigrants, how do you know there's even one voilent sexual offender?
Being illegal, means the goverment, or its branches doesn't know they're here.
If they were known, I cannot see why the govement would let those criminals live about their daily lives.
