I've noticed that of all the people here, it seems like a large percentage are either military or ex-military.

Think about it; how many servicemen and women are there in the U.S. military? Two, maybe three million? And what's the population of the U.S.? Like 300 million, right? That means that about 1% of Americans serve in the military...

But what percentage of the people here were in the military? It's more like 50%.

I'm just making these numbers up, but I doubt that they're that far off...

Anyways, has anyone else noticed this? Why are there a disproportionate number of military types here?

I'm not saying that this is a good or bad thing; I'm just curious because the number here is way outside of what you'd expect from random chance...

You'll notice that a good majority of the 'military' members here are retired.

Hence; they have no life anymore and spend a good amount of time on the web...

Good point, but for every retired military person out there, there should be 99 retired non-military people...

There's something about military training that attracts you to the web more than a civilian would be drawn to it?

Could be that the only thing a retired military person can afford is a computer with internet access.

If I had spent my time making money in the real world I might be retired and traveling or on a yacht or some such. As it is I work and struggle to stay ahead of the bills....

I'd say its the topic/subject material...

I think alot of "average Joes" are more focused on Britney Spears, the NFL, and Baseball statistics....military folks become more politically aware (being on the poopy end of the decision stick), are exposed to a variety of cultures and religions, and are generally more "worldly"....and have the confidence to voice their opinions....

so thinks me Smile

Perhaps a quick note to John Kerry is in order as he evidently didn't get this memo... Confused or disgusted

Interesting to see the different reasons by the different retirees... Laughing
so i will speak for me as well...I agree with pondering(Prolly cuz it makes me sound smarter)...(OOPS misspell Embarassed -John Kerry aint gonna like that...)
But I do have a life-my kids are age 4 and 7. My wife is an active duty E-7 military police that was a Drill Instructor at the same time I was..thats where we met.with 6 years left to retire, and i i am in college(Sorry John Kerry) and i work full time...I share my opinions for the reason pondering mentioned. I also respect evrybody's opinion, even though quite a few are wrong
LOL Laughing
But Yes my wife and i are both very acute on the world, cultures and politics.(And she is very cute) Wink

Might interest John Kerry to know i waited until 36 years of age to marry and have kids due to pursuing my military career with vigor, seriousness and enjoyment. My wife has a masters degree and still goes to school. I am working on my masters now, but i have another degree.

What's your master's degree in?

Also, I get the sense that you guys are taking these Kerry comments too seriously. Yes, he's an idiot. But don't paint all Democrats with the same brush. Who cares what he thinks.

John Kerry is speaking at a time when undecided voters will make a decision on who to vote for-he represents the democratic party right now, not himself. I take the comments for what they are...ridiculous and over the top, as well as insulting to an armed forces far better than the world has ever seen. Why take it so serious? because-as was pointed out by other board members-we get those streotypes daily and it is not fair. It takes a very smart, educated, and quick thinking person to survive in combat, and an even more smart one to operate all the technology we deal with. An infantryman deals with technology and other stuff most civilians will never know or see-IE pluggers, radios, weapon systems, troop leading procedures, vehicles, paperwork-in other words just a simple enlisted man aint so simple-he has to be smart to do the job, live and help his team live as well.

Who cares what John kerry thinks-undecided voters and young people, and a quick end to a political career will happen to boneheads like him when he makes stupid statements that tick off Americans.

Me thinks he may blow this election the same way he did running his mouth about lebians in the presidential race...just my .02

I care what he thinks because he is a US Senator... came pretty close to being President of the United States, and still wields quite a bit of power with decisions that affect me... and many of my friends. That is why I care.

Second, his comments are only indicative of what people of his ilk think of themselves as compared to those who serve in the military. They regard themselves as so intellectually superior that anyone who does not have a college degree... or have a college degree from the right college... etc... are only doofs that need to be told what to do and what to think... as only they are smart enough to make these critical decisions.

The tone of his comments Monday are similar to those he made after he returned from Vietnam. They were made at the expense of the military meant to advance his political career.

That is why I care... he needs to resign...forget apologize... resign. Every citizen of Mass needs to get slapped in the face for continuing to send this idiot to the US Senate... it just makes me sick listening to his condescending comments...

i think about half or more of the whole mess of knuckle heads should resign....i mean...just when you think one has gone as far in insanity as one could possibly go....along comes another and takes it a step futher.....is that the best we have to choose from?...then why are y'all so fired up about voting for one of them...jeepers creepers dudes and dudettes...let's do something different...something drastic...i mean...

if an ex military man says...be smart so you won't have to go into the military...then didn't he admit he was an idiot?...and if so....why are we electing idiots...

man....can't we just put them all in(both sides) jail and start over?.....
