This is a fresh way of studying scripture that I found somewhere online. It's called S.O.A.P, and while I haven't used it too extensively yet I like the idea. It tends to make the word sink in deeper. Here's an example:
Scripture: Acts 13:38-39 . . .I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. Through him everyone who believes is justified from everything you could not be justified from by the law of Moses.
Observation: Christ can forgive transgression whereas the law can only condemn on account of transgression.
Application: Faith in Jesus is the single most important undertaking in this life. Only through him can our iniquity and wrongdoings be forgotten. Without Christ the blame for our sin remains on our own shoulders, leaving us defenseless come judgement day. Without Christ our violations of God's law would condemn us, for we would have no one speaking in our defense. Therefore we must constantly affirm and nurture our faith in Christ.
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for your saving grace. You have forgiven my sins, saving me from certain and deserved condemnation. Please help me to grasp the significance and scope of your sacrifice, and the more fully appreciate your infinite love for me. Thank you for making me a child of God. Please help me to act accordingly by giving me the discipline, awareness and obedient heart needed to live by your law; the very law that I could not, and still can not, obey without you in my life.
Not the greatest model since I'm not the most eloquent or insightful believer out there, but I tried
I was thinking that since most of what goes on around here is argument (even in the fellowship forum at times ) we could use this as a means of study and fellowship. A breath of fresh air I guess. So does sharing S.O.A.Ps sound like a good idea to you guys? If it catches on, great. If not, oh well _________________ Wise men speak because they have something to say; fools because they have to say something. |

Hi Drewgie,
I think that this is an excellent idea.
Scripture: Acts 13: 38-39, "I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. Through him everone who believes is justified from everything you could not be justified from by the law of Moses."
Observation: Christ forgave the sins of the world once and for all. The law showed me that because there is no good thing in the flesh I could not keep the law, so Righteousness had to come another way.
Application: Because Righteousness comes by faith in the works of Christ, and w/o faith it is impossible to please you, I will continue to read and meditate in your word day and night so that I will grow in grace and knowledge of the truth. I will be a workman that needeth not to be ashamed at your appearing.
Prayer: Thank you Lord, because of your once and for all sacrafice for sin in the flesh I stand holy, complete and unblameable before you. I thank you Lord that you do not judge after the flesh but you see me as though you were looking at Christ, the sinless one, for your word declares that as He is so are we in this world.
I will hold fast to my profession of faith until you come.

Good one Judy, thanks for sharing.
Feel free to chose your own scriptures as well, sorry if there was a misunderstanding there. It wasn't my intention to stay on the same verse, but that works too Different perspectives on the same message are always welcome.
I will try to type one up tonight or tommorow. I hope more join in.
God bless. _________________ Wise men speak because they have something to say; fools because they have to say something. |

Good evening,
Thought it would be interesting to continue on with the next 2 verses.
SCRIPTURE: Acts 13:40-41, "Beware therefore, lest that come upon you, which is spoken of in the prophets; Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you."
OBSERVATION: We must take enormous care and study of the scriptures not to be deceived because the Prophets prophesied that God's people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. We must seek for the truth as a man would seek for hidden treasure. The truth is more precious than gold, yea than much fine gold.
My observation is that 'Christiandom' has missed the truth. They cannot see the greatness of God and His work because of false doctrine. They profess that they know God, but their heart is far from Him.
APPLICATION: Though salvation seems foolishness to the world I believe that through the Power of the Resurrection and faith in His work I have passed from death to life. I believe that I am holy and complete in Him. My focus is on the world to come. I have separated myself from this world because what fellowship does righteousness have with unrighteousness? I will hold fast to my profession of faith until he comes.
PRAYER: My daily prayer is that all those that hunger and thirst for righteousness will be filled. I pray that eyes will be opened and hearts will believe the Word and glorious Power of the Resurrection. I pray that if there be anything lacking in my faith it will be revealed to me.
In Christ, Judy |

the S.O.A.P idea is great.the understanding of the scripture may vary from person to person and so can be the revelation in the scripture and because of this am suggesting that listers be free to use the scripture used by another lister.
the way the above scriptures have been observed applied and the end prayer would not be the same one someone else will do it cause God ministers to people differently.
God bless u all. |

SCRIPTURE: I Corinthians 1:10, "Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment."
OBSERVATION: My obversation is that contrary to popular belief, the Word was never meant to speak different things to different people, but that truly the Body of Christ is to be in one accord and in one mind according to the scriptures.
I believe that it is because man cannot scientifically define the Word's of the Spirit and because he stubornly refuses to believe what he cannot understand with the carnal mind, he interprets the scriptures according to his own thoughts.
I Peter 1:20, "Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation."
In other words the scriptures must line up, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
APPLICATION: I am careful not to put words in the mouth of the prophets, but as a little child, believe what the Father tells me.
PRAYER: That the Father will continue to reveal his truth. |

Good work nana.
Would you mind if I shared this with some members who claim to have a unique revelation of the 'spirit' which by most accounts runs contrary to the revelations of the saints of old? _________________ JP's Mind - my blog

SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 1:1, "God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,"
OBSERVATION: Because God could not look upon sin He spoke to the people through the prophets. He spoke to them in various and miraculous manners such as, the burning bush, through angels and many signs and wonders.
Isaiah 59:2, "But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid His face from you, that He will not hear."
APPLICATION: This is how things were in OT times. Things changed after the resurrection of Christ. No longer was it necessary to speak to us through prophets and signs and wonders, He spoke to us through Jesus and has revealed His will by the written Word.
PRAYER: That we will continue to grow in the knowledge of God. |

SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 1:2, "Has in these last days spoken unto us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, by whom also He made the worlds:"
OBSERVATION: Colossians 1:17-18, "And He (Jesus)is before all things, and by Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the FIRSTBORN from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in Him should all fullness dwell."
The last days commenced when our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ began His ministry: God spoke to us through His Son Jesus Christ.
APPLICATION: The Words of Christ are recorded in the Gospels and they are there to enlighten the children of God.
PRAYER: May we scearch the scriptures that we may know God. |
