I suppose I should want to say that I get my beliefs on abortion from the Bible. But to be honest, I don't, at least not completely. Just thinking about it makes me ill. I once heard someone (I think it was Charleton Heston) go into detail what goes into a partial birth abortion, and I wanted to throw up! It could not be right. I have seen pictures of chopped up baby parts and the like. I couldn't look at them for very long because I literally became ill.
Do all Christians get all of their personal beliefs from the Bible? Or do they have a few of their own beliefs? That is the question to answer.

As I understand things, if you are a Christian, then you have no choice but to believe that the Bible is the one and only source of perfect morality. You aren't allowed to think that something good in the Bible is immoral, and you aren't allowed to think that something bad has been left out (ie. that some sin has been overlooked); it is perfect.

I agree with you; it's pretty terrible stuff. But watching an animal being slaughtered and gutted also is not easy to watch. Animals don't have souls, so if unborn babies don't have souls yet, then their bodies being destroyed is similar to an animal being slaughtered.

Hello Christine,
The bible has been referred to as our roadmap to the Eternal City. Certainly, it contains much truth with respect to shaping and tempering our moral convictions. But I don't think I would regard it, in itself, as our moral yardstick for that would be left to The Holy Spirit that indwells only believers:
John 14:26,
Quote:
"But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you."

The two affirm, each the other, and give us the ability, when considering situations and circumstances in our daily life, to judge our own selves morally:
1 Corinthians 11:31,
Quote:
"For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged."

This, also, could be likened as a two edged sword for, in those times when we err and our error has distanced us from the Holy Spirit such that we feel as though the Comforter has abandoned us such that we feel as Lamentation's author wrote:
Lamentations 1:16, "For these things I weep; mine eye, mine eye runneth down with water, because the comforter that should relieve my soul is far from me: my children are desolate, because the enemy prevailed."
It is then the Comforter, in guiding, leading and teaching us, convicts us of the errors of our ways that we may be brought back into fellowship with The Lord:
1 Corinthians 11:32,
Quote:
"But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world."

And, yet, the scriptures and the Comforter both confirm that there is a third we must not foraske in the effective tempering and proper course of our moral and spiritual development:
Hebrews 10:24-25,
Quote:
"And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching."

So, in conclusion, we see there is a trinity involved in our moral and spiritual growth; the Holy Spirit, the fellowship of the saints and the Word and we see, also, how that our growth is hindered if we slight even one of these three.

Best,
Sky
