Part 1
Who was Ruth? A man named Elimelech had a wife, Naomi and 2 sons. The 2 sons married Moabite women, Orpah and Ruth. All of the men died and the women decided to move back home again. Naomi was able to persuade Orpah to return to her parents, but Ruth decided to go with her.

Rth 1:15 And she said, Behold, Your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and to her gods. Return after your sister-in-law.
Rth 1:16 And Ruth said, Do not beg me to leave you, to return from following after you. For where you go, I will go. Where you stay, I will stay. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God.

Ruth left her family and her gods to go with Naomi and worship Naomi's God.

Part 2 will be later. Any one may add their comments as I go along.

Ruth and Naomi returned to Bethlehem. It was the beginning of the barley harvest. Ruth went to glean on Boaz' field. He knew of her kindness to Naomi, so she found favor in his eyes. He told his workers not to touch her and not to laugh at her for gleaning among the sheaves, and to put reeds of barley for her to find. Boaz told Ruth not to go and glean in another field, for she may be hurt and invited her to glean in his field for the entire harvest.

Rth 2:8 And Boaz said to Ruth, Do you not hear, my daughter? Do not go to glean in another field, neither go away from here, but stay here close by my maidens.
Rth 2:9 Let your eyes be on the field that they reap, and go after them. Have I not commanded the young men that they shall not touch you? And when you are thirsty, go to the vessels and drink of that which the young men have drawn.
Rth 2:10 Then she fell on her face and bowed herself to the ground, and said to him, Why have I found grace in your eyes, that you should take notice of me, since I am a foreigner?
Rth 2:11 And Boaz answered and said to her, It has been fully shown to me all that you have done to your mother-in-law since the death of your husband, And you left your father and your mother and the land of your birth, and have come to a people whom you did not know before now.

Part 3

After awhile Naomi said that she should help find a husband for Ruth. Since Boaz was a relative, he was the one that Naomi told Ruth to go to. She told her to wash herself, clothe herself and annoint herself with perfume, and to go to the threshing floor.
Rth 3:4 And when he lies down, you mark the place where he lies, and you shall go in and uncover his feet and lie down. And he will tell you what you shall do.

When Boaz found her at his feet at midnight when he awoke, Boaz blessed her in The Name of Jehovah and this kindness was even greater than before, for she did not chase a younger man. But he told her that there was a kinsmen Redeemer who was a closer relative than he. He then sent her home when it was morning and told her not to tell anyone she had been there (or a woman had been on the treshing floor). He gave her some barley for Naomi.

Rth 3:16 And when she came to her mother-in-law, she said, Who are you, my daughter? And she told her all that the man had done to her.
Rth 3:17 And she said, These six measures of barley he gave to me. For he said to me, Do not go empty to your mother-in-law.
Rth 3:18 And she said, Sit still, my daughter, until you know how the matter will fall. For the man will not rest until he has finished the thing today.

The next part will follow. Smile

I haven't studied this Book for quite awhile. Having said this, I believe there are 4 NT truths illistrated in this Book:

1. Human adversity becomes God's opportunity for advancing His great redemptive purposes.

2. Ruth's inclusion in redemption demonstrates that participation in God's Kingdom is not by physical descent, but by faith and conforming one's life to God through the obedience that comes from faith.

3. Ruth's place in the ancestry of David and Jesus (see Mt. 1:5) signifies that people of all nations will be represented in the kingdom of the great Son of David (Rev. 5:9, 7:9).

4. Boaz as the kinsman-redeemer is a type of the Great Redeemer, Jesus Christ (Mt. 20:28).

I agree with that, golfjack, you are a wise man.

Part 4

That very day, when selling Naomi's land to the other kinsman redeemer, Boaz told this man that if he bought this land, he would acquite Ruth as his wife. He could not do it and could not make Ruth his wife, so the land was sold to Boaz instead. He married Ruth and she gave birth to a son:Rth 4:13 And Boaz took Ruth, and she was his wife. And when he went in to her, Jehovah made her conceive. And she bore a son.

This was Obed, the Father of Jesse, the father of David.

Naomi took care of the child, and every one said:Rth 4:17 And the women, her neighbors, gave it a name, saying, There is a son born to Naomi. And they called his name Obed. He is the father of Jesse, the father of David.

The people said about Ruth:Rth 4:15 And he shall be to you as a restorer of life, and one who cheers your old age. For your daughter-in-law who loves you has borne him, she who is better to you than seven sons.

Ruth was rewarded her kindness to Naomi and Boaz. She is the Great-grandmother of King David.
She left her home and her family and her gods to stay with Naomi, and to Worship God.
I love this story, that is why I did this study for you. It is a gentle story in the midst of the violent stories of Judges. Ruth was a good woman. She is an ancestor of Joseph, Jesus earthly father. That is a great reward, if there ever was one.

That concludes The Example of Ruth. Thank you to all who read it and all who responded and will respond.

Thank you Christine for bringing this Book to our attention. I really enjoyed your comments as well as others. As I really love to study God's Word, What book do you want to bring to the board now?
