Catholic church warming up to condoms

They also appear to believe that sex itself is a sacred act, which should only be used for procreation. Using birth control makes the act profane, I guess.

I don't remember how they feel about couples in which one or both of the partners is sterile.

Patty good question, where's these "catholic friends" on this website? I read through this whole thing and didn't notice any comments from a catholic, just a bunch of protestants babbling but not actually saying much about the topic. ha ha. Come to think of it I don't know if Ive noticed any catholic making comments on this website so far. They must be an urban legend. Ha ha.

I guess I'm the resident Catholic on this board, but I don't spend a whole lot of time on it because I don't have much time. I'll have more time when school is out. I haven't read through all of this, only the last page.
Michael-D, the thing I find most offensive about your posts are your "ha ha" additions. Use a smiley face.
All Protestant churches up until about 1930 also considered birth control wrong. There was a Lambeth conference, maybe that's not the right spelling, but anyhow, when that conference in England decided birth control was acceptable, other Protestant churches agreed. Catholics, of course, still maintain that purposely interfering with God's plan of procreation is wrong. You can call the Catholic Church many things, but you can't call it trendy. We maintain that having sex is a natural act and blessed by God.
Getting pregnant has nothing to do with the rightness or wrongness of the sexual act so post menopausal women or other natural sterility doesn't come into play as judgement of right or wrong.
I have to get ready for work now, but I'll try to get back to this some time this evening.

And your claim that ALL protestants once considered birth control wrong is news to me. Seems pretty unbelievable because Ive never heard of a protestant that believed there was anything wrong with birth control. But they ALL used to believe that? Do you even realize what a serious claim that is?

And I do think you catholics are trendy. Your priests wear some wicked cool clothes. Ha ha. I mean - Very Happy

I'm simple like you Michael-D. cballard simply stands for my first and last name. While my claim that all Protestants used to believe birth control was serious, it is true. Personally, I see birth control as the basis for the destruction of the family that we are witnessing in the western world today.
