What Is the Quran About
?

The Quran, the last revealed word of God, is the primary source of every Muslim’s faith and practice. It deals with all the subjects which concern human beings: wisdom, doctrine, worship, transactions, law, etc., but its basic theme is the relationship between God and His creatures. At the same time, it provides guidelines and detailed teachings for a just society, proper human conduct, and an equitable economic system.
Note that the Quran was revealed to Muhammad in Arabic only. So, any Quranic translation, either in English or any other language, is neither a Quran, nor a version of the Quran, but rather it is only a translation of the meaning of the Quran. The Quran exists only in the Arabic in which it was revealed.

Why is the Qur'an a miracle ?

1-
The Qu'ran is an untouchable book : After 1400 years, from the begining of Prophet Muhammad's, peace be upon him, message, the Qu'ran has not changed in any way, even as a matter of one charachter. Prooving this is very easy, since you can compare all the versions of the Qu'ran everywhere in the world and you will find them all the same. God ensured that this book would be saved from any changes attempted by human beings. God said in the Qur'an : " We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption)"

2- The Qu'ran contains many scientific facts that have been discovered recently using computer systems and microscopes. Many scientists have attended conferences dealing with this subject and have themselves accepted Islam. These same scientists have said that it is not possible that Muhammad, peace be upon him, an illiterate man, who lived 1400 years ago, could have discovered such things on his own. God said in the Qur'an : "Soon will We show them Our Signs in the (furthest) regions (of the earth), and in their own souls, until it becomes manifest to them that this is the Truth. Is it not enough that thy Lord doth witness all things" ( Quran 41:53 )

3- The Qu'ran, which is in Arabic, was revealed to the people of the Arabian Gulf who invented the Arabic language. Through Muhammad, peace be upon him, Allah challenged the people who claimed that a human wrote it to emulate such a book. No one from the time of the Prophet till now could write a book that contained the many scientific facts, miracles and similar effects on people that the Qu'ran did and still does today.

4- The Qu'ran had not one Arabic grammar mistake, which was recognized by the disbelievers at the time of the Prophet, who were the founders of the Arabic language.

These are a few examples of why Muslims believe in the Qur'an.

Here are some verses from God to Muslims encouraging them to invite the People of the Book ( Jews and Christians to Islam ):

God said : {Say: "O People of the Book! Why reject ye the Signs of Allah, when Allah is Himself witness to all ye do?} (Quran 3:98 )

God tell Muslims to say : {..'We believe in that which had been revealed to us and revealed to you, and our God and your God is One, and unto Him we surrender} (Quran 29:46

The Koran is about killing people who don't follow it.

The Qur'an (koran) is the Islamic holy book of Allah, which means God in Arabic.

We worship the same God. The God of Abraham!

Christina,

You raised a thought in me in sharing this... What came to me is this... The Pharisees said, "Abraham is our Father" and yet said that in word expressing what they thought they trusted and yet Jesus corrects them from what He saw when looking into their hearts which was that they really trusted in Moses remember that?

So they were kinda saying, "The God of Abraham" and were correct in word but in ones heart they were Trusting in their own accuser Moses. Sometimes even though we ourselves believe in what we consider the right book, within that book is those seeking righteousness in two different ways. Misunderstanding and in ignorance seeking to be justified by the law and not submitting to the righteousness by faith in Christ, some mix them, thats where rightly dividing comes in.

I thought... wow, is that so true.

In Him

The God of Islam is not the Christian God. THey are both sovereign, omnipotent creators and Judges of the world. But the Christian concept of tri-unity is the ultimate blasphemy to muslims. Furthermore, unlike the Christian God, Allah is distant, lacks or hides his love, motivates by fear, and acts arbitrarily if he wants to.

So the views of the Islam religion are diffrent from yours. Why do you say The God of Islam is diffrent from yours?

Heres some back ground on The Islam religion
This is the islam belief-
Muhammad is a descendant of Abraham, Hagar and Ishmael. The Prophet Muhammad was sent by the God of Abraham to fulfill the promise and blessings given to Abraham and Hagar regarding Ishmael.
He was born in CE 571, long after the Jewish and Christian Scriptures had closed, so the only reference to him, if any, in those Scriptures would be in prophecies.

He was born in Mecca, the place in the desert where Abraham left Hagar and Ishmael, and where they settled, and where Abraham and Ishmael later built the Kaaba, the place of pilgrimage. His father died before his birth, and his mother died when he was only six years old. He was brought up by his grandfather, and then by his uncle, both of whom were successively the Guardian of the Kaaba, the place of pilgrimage, a high position in Meccan society.
He was one of the few people in Mecca who still followed the religion of Abraham and Ishmael, while the majority of Meccans and Arabs had become idol worshippers, idols that they had put in the Kaaba, the place of pilgrimage.

Revelation

He was not content with just the worldly life, and he would go off to a cave of Hira in the hills of Mecca to meditate about God for days at a time. He followed the religion of Abraham and Ishmael, worshipping the God of Abraham

One day while he was meditating in the cave, the angel Gabriel came to him in the form of a man and said to him "Iqra", which means read or recite. He said I do not know how to read, so Gabriel squeezed him and said again "Iqra". He said what shall I read? Gabriel said "Iqra bi ismi rabbikal lazi khalaq, khalaqal insana min alaq", meaning "Read in the name of thy Lord Who created, Created man out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood:". So he recited after Gabriel.

After Gabriel left, he went to his wife, Khadija, doubting the reality of what had happened. If something like that happened to you, would you not doubt yourself, unless you had a huge ego?

She reassured him that she knew him to be a good person so it must be true, and she believed in him even before he believed in himself. She took him to her cousin Waraqa, a follower of the religion of Abraham, who was learned in the Jewish and Christian scriptures, and he confirmed that he must be the Prophet promised in the Scriptures, so he was reassured.

This was the beginning of the revelation of the Word of God, the Quran to Muhammad, through the angel Gabriel
. Muhammad's experience with Gabriel is similar to the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist, which initiated the ministry of Jesus.

Christina, one question will desolve all your misconceptions. Does the Allah of the Koran have a Son named Jesus Christ?

If he does, perhaps he is the same God; if not, then he is not the God of the Bible.

Yes here is some of what the quran says about Jesus.

Quran

2;87. We gave Moses the Book and followed him up with a succession of apostles; We gave Jesus the son of Mary Clear (Signs) and strengthened him with the holy spirit. Is it that whenever there comes to you an apostle with what ye yourselves desire not, ye are puffed up with pride?- Some ye called impostors, and others ye slay!

3:45-47 & 53-54
45. Behold! the angels said: "O Mary! Allah giveth thee glad tidings of a Word from Him: his name will be Christ Jesus, the son of Mary, held in honour in this world and the Hereafter and of (the company of) those nearest to Allah.
46. "He shall speak to the people in childhood and in maturity. And he shall be (of the company) of the righteous."
47. She said: "O my Lord! How shall I have a son when no man hath touched me?" He said: "Even so: Allah createth what He willeth: When He hath decreed a plan, He but saith to it, 'Be,' and it is!
53. "Our Lord! we believe in what Thou hast revealed, and we follow the Messenger. then write us down among those who bear witness."
54. And (the unbelievers) plotted and planned, and Allah too planned, and the best of planners is Allah.

Does that say that He is the son of Allah? Or the Son of Mary?

Perhaps our Muslim friend could help us here. Oh Mosa? Is Jesus the Son of Allah? Or simply his prophet?

Star replies,

When God created THEM (male and female) and when He created THEM He called THEM MAN, then would not seeing Christ as the SON of MAN be ok in scripture?

By this I mean of a spiritual truth that He is the Root and the OFFSPRING of David, that He is born of WOMAN "under the law" too redeem those from under it, see what I'm saying? Psalm says WHEN He sends His Spirit THEY are created so the redeeming of those under the law is the appointed time by the Father where He sends His Spirit into our hearts crying Abba Father. Appears to be the "creating" of the two and making them one in Himself.

Too much information probrobly but He is both the Son of man and the Son of God. The Son of man in that He is the spiritual man we give birth to (Christ in us).

Without judgement I'm just following this thread and wondering is all.

Does the Jews pray to the same God as Christians?
Does the Jews pray to the same God as Muslims?
Does Christians pray to the same God as Jews?
Does Christians pray to the same God as Muslims?
Does Muslims pray to the same God as Jews?
Does Muslims pray to the same God as Christians?

The answer is Yes to all above questions.
The difference is that the Jews don't believe in Jesus being the Son of God, nor a Prophet sent by God, the Muslims don't believe in Jesus being the Son of God, but that he was one of the important Prophets, and Christians believe Jesus was the Son of God.

Muslims claim they descend from Ishmael and a description of Ishmael is cantained in Genesis Chapter 16:11, the Lords messenger speaking to Hagar.

You are now pregnant and shall bear a son;
you shall name him Ishmael,
For the Lord has heard you,
God has answered you,
He shall be a wild ass of a man,
his hand against everyone,
and everyone's hand against him;
In opposition to all his kin
shall he encamp."

* = self-identification unclear
A fatwa (Arabic: فتوى) plural fatāwa (Arabic: فتاوى) , is a legal pronouncement in Islam, issued by a religious law specialist on a specific issue. Usually a fatwa is issued at the request of an individual or a judge to settle a question where ’’fiqh,’’ Islamic jurisprudence, is unclear. A scholar capable of issuing fatwas is known as a Mufti.

Because Islam has no centralized priestly hierarchy, there is no uniform method to determine who can issue a valid fatwa and who cannot. Some Islamic scholars complain that too many people feel qualified to issue fatwas.

Different Islamic clerics can issue contradictory fatwas. The effect depends upon whether or not this takes place in a nation where Islamic law (sharia) is the basis of civil law.

In nations where Islamic law is the basis of civil law, fatwas by the national religious leadership are debated prior to being issued. Thus, they are rarely contradictory. If two fatwas were contradictory, the ruling bodies (combined civil and religious law) attempt to define a compromise interpretation that will eliminate the resulting ambiguity.

In nations where Islamic law is not the basis of law, Muslims often must face two contradictory fatwas. In such cases, the fatwa deriving from leadership of their religious tradition would be honored. For example, Sunni Muslims would favor a Sunni fatwa over a Shiite one.

The overwhelming majority of fatwas are on mundane matters (for examples see the archives linked below). Those declaring war or pronouncing death sentences are not at all representative, despite the attention they draw in English-language media. Such fatwas, however, have caught the attention of the western media and become widely renowned, especially among critics of Islam.

The best known of these was proclaimed in 1989 by the Iranian Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, against Salman Rushdie‘s novel ’’The Satanic Verses’’. The argument related to an ostensibly blasphemous statement from an early biography of Prophet Muhammad, regarding incorporating pagan goddesses into Islam’s strongly monotheist structure. Khomeini died shortly after issuing the fatwa. In 1998 Iran stated that it is no longer pursuing Rushdie’s death; however the decree was again reversed in early 2005 by the present theocrat, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. See ’’Salman Rushdie’’ for details.

Fundamentalists in Bangladesh proclaimed a similar fatwa against Taslima Nasreen (which see for details) in 1993, against a series of newspaper columns in which she was critical of the treatment of women under Islam.

Osama bin Ladin in Afghanistan, jointly with Ayman al-Zawahiri, proclaimed a fatwa in 1998 in the name of the World Islamic Front for Jihad Against Jews and Crusaders, declaring, "The ruling to kill the Americans and their allies – civilians and military – is an individual duty for every Muslim who can do it in any country in which it is possible to do it, in order to liberate the al-Aqsa Mosque (in Jerusalem) and the holy mosque (in Mecca) from their grip, and in order for their armies to move out of all the lands of Islam, defeated and unable to threaten any Muslim. This is in accordance with the words of Almighty God, 'and fight the pagans all together as they fight you all together,' and 'fight them until there is no more tumult or oppression, and there prevail justice and faith in God.'" For more information, see: Osama bin Laden Fatwa.

Fake, my mom has a son; his name is Adam. Your mom has a son; His name is Fake. Would it then be safe to say that we both have the same mom? I mean, don't we both call them mom? Don't they both share the same tendencies (child raising, cooking, being momlike).

Or would it better be stated that since one mom has a different son than another mom then they cannot possibly be the same mom?

Likewise, the muslim god has no son, the Christian God does. How then can we say that this God both has a Son and does not?
