| One of the ways Satan lies is to have others tell the truth. Say I lie to you, but I am an especially good liar, so you do not detect that I am lying and you believe my lie. Later, you tell others the truth, which is the lie I told you. You are not lying, but your words are a lie. Pretty simple really. It is the difference between telling what we believe is true, and telling the Truth |

Hi Van,
Unless you know for sure it's the truth. Isn't that gossip

Yes, absolutely. This is why it is so important for us to have Holy Spirit. Everything "truth" should be examined and confirmed (or denied) by Him.
Let everything be confirmed on the account of two or three witnesses...and one of those witnesses had better be the Holy Spirit! _________________ (Father God) Take this mask off - Let me see you with my own eyes. |

I agree Nobby.
And Javan, I agree also with your excellent point. When I or anybody says "the Bible teaches this or that" I should be pressed to provide the references to the passages I am relying upon, and with the Holy Spirit's guidance, others should study the passages and see if what I am saying is true. BTW, I have been known to get it wrong from time to time, as Larry has pointed out, among others. |

Touche' ... the Word can be literally translated then construed to say that the meaning is something other than the script actually says and means.
I was duped for a short time while serving in the armed forces to believe the biblical understanding of one of my superior officer's was accurate only to learn later that he had no idea what the bible meant but used it to " encourage his men " to commit acts they, we, would not ordinarily do, especially if we were not certain the bible transaltion being used was a ruse.
I have to admit that his angle worked effectively, until each man died or figured out that a ruse was on.
I must admit that even though I wanted to blame him for some things that I did, it was my fault for saying amen to a lie, so that I didn't have to study the bible for myself and ask God for His answers.

Oh, Nobby, don't you think that would kill virtually all discussion here?

Smilin', it's all right to repeat what is said as long as you admit or tell people that it is hearsay. At least on an open debate like this.
But something that is said to you in private, such as PM's or E-mail, is wrong! Fact is I can boot anyone for that.
Smilin', this is not for you, because you pretty much do it in your posts.
I'm going to ask our members again to rember to type in the name of the member you are quoteing, or take time to learn the BBCode. You can find the info. right here where I'm typing, to the left, under Options.
As long as were quoteing the same one, you only need to do it once in a post, but if you quote someone else you need to let people know! OK?
If we don't start doing this, I'm going to make it a rule!
I would suggest you learn the BBCode because it is so neat. _________________ Much Love Nobby

I'm sorry but I don't understand the part above - admit that a direct quote is hearsay? I acknowledge I might be wrong, but I thought "hearsay" was third-party communications?
And as for quotes? I love 'em. I think they improve communications by continuing the thread clearly and concisely....O' course, there might be reasons not to be clear or concise but that might not be kind to follow that line of reasoning...And heaven knows, I'm kind...
I have a question, though. This is the first time I've used bbCodes. What are "close tags" and "close all open bbCode tags"? I'm sure its something to make my life simpler.... 8) _________________ All things are good that lead to God |
