As a young man of fourteen, I put out my hand to shake the hand of Pastor Bill. His hands were soft and pudgy, pink with perfect nails. They were a far cry from my father’s hands, calloused and scarred, and capable of crushing my hand. A pastor’s hand does a different kind of work. It turns the pages of bibles and other books. It holds babies and the hands of the elderly. My father’s hands had fashioned B-17’s, held dynamite sticks in hard rock coalmines, and lifted huge rocks to make a house for his bride. But then I realized they both had good hands, willing to do God’s will. They are both gone now, but as I look back, I am proud I shook their hands.

Hi Van,
I know what you mean about the soft hands of pastors.
Most of them that are full time pastors & don't have a part time job, their hands are soft.
We have a small church, & our new pastor feels he needs to work part time.He now works three days a week.
He was a full time carpenter before he came to our church, so his hands are not so soft!
Seems as tho' I remember reading about another pair of Hands in the Bible, and they belonged to a carpenter. Jesus spent most much of His young life as a carpenter of trade, and His whole life as a spiritual carpenter! Repairing lives both body healing & Spiritual healing.
Then He became the perfect sacrifice,so that all might be saved!
Now this same set of Hands is up in heaven, setting on the right side of God. Jesus now serves as our Mediator to the Father.
Know man cometh to the Father but by Me;
If we were to see Him right now, I believe even after so many years, we would still see His nail scared Hands!
God's Blessings,

Oh Van your post reminded me of my father's hands, he worked hard, and he could do anything...He was a coal miner for twenty years in the coal mines of WVA.
He has gone on to be with the Lord now, but
I lift my hands and praise God because I will get to hold my dad's hands again some day. \0/\0/
Soon too!

God bless,

The Lord told us to look for the Blessed Hope. He encouraged us to be joyful as we await the
Bridegroom who may call us up at any time. Scripture after scripture after scripture instructs us to look to Israel as God's timepiece. Jesus listed the signs of the times for us and we are to recognize them, NOT deny them. We are to know the difference between the church and national Israel and celebrate Israel's future deliverence. Pretribbers strive to obey all of these wonderful things. |
